Fire Safety Manager – Mileway – Hybrid working from London office.

Are you a driven and ambitious fire safety professional, ready to take on a new position in a fast-moving international team? We are looking for a fire safety professional who can help us reduce the cost of property insurance claims across Mileway.  You will do this by helping customers and colleagues improve how we identify and manage property risks to the business. 

Your role will help protect our buildings and customers businesses particularly from fire risks associated with emerging technologies including, lithium batteries, PV panels, Electric vehicles and more. This is a great opportunity for a fire fighter or fire safety professional who is looking to move from a fire service background into the world of commercial real estate, insurance and risk management.

This position reports to the Head of Insurance, it is a hybrid role, normally three days a week from our London office with occasional business travel to properties and offices across Europe.

What you’ll do

  • Support leasing team colleagues in reviewing and managing changes involving potentially higher risk uses.
  • Work closely with the insurers and brokers to manage, facilitate and communicate the companies risk control inspection programme.
  • Manage insurers risk control reports and recommendations.  You’ll work with colleagues, property managers, customers and insurers to prioritise and address important recommendations.
  • Help Mileway and our customers learn from insurance claims / losses, particularly fires.  You’ll investigate and communicate trends and help us the business to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Continue to develop simple, pragmatic standards and processes to reduce fire risk and other property risks impacting the business. You’ll launch these standards to everyone who needs to know and raise awareness with clear training and materials.
  • Support construction and development project teams to ensure that appropriate fire and property risk controls are embedded at the design stage and any issues are resolved in a collaborative, practical way.
  • Support general risk management team activities, including preparing and presenting insurance renewal materials, health and safety initiatives, business continuity management and more.

 

What you’ll bring

  • A suitable education in Fire Safety with formal qualifications; a NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate or similar. 
  • At least 3 years experience working in a full time fire safety position including significant exposure to warehousing and logistics property risks.
  • A technical knowledge of property risk controls including human element issues, fire protection, modern construction materials and the main fire codes. 
  • A good knowledge of the usual IT platforms along with the ability to handle large data files for analysis and custom reporting.   
  • A willingness to learn, pitch in, solve problems and be part of a small flexible team supporting a fast-moving business.
  • A track record of building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable skills that show you can influence others to manage fire risks effectively.
  • Resourcefulness and the drive to deliver improvements.
  • Good communication skills, ideally with a second European language too.
