Salary Range: Entry Rate is $233.62 per day

This position is On Call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Guaranteed 40 hours per week. Shifts are governed by union agreement, subject to seniority.
Travel is minimal.
Training for this position is company-paid on-the-job training.

The Combo GREB Clerk position is a Guaranteed Rotating Extra Board (GREB) position. It requires being on call to cover vacancies that arise when permanently assigned employees are absent for various reasons, such as vacation or sick leave. Compliance with company and federal safety rules, policies and procedures to include wearing required safety equipment, responding to safety concerns and taking appropriate action is required; may be required to handle hazardous materials.
BRIDGE OPERATOR
- Monitor and direct marine and railroad traffic around a lift bridge, raising and lowering the lift bridge as needed
- Give trackage rights for Maintenance of Way gangs and B&B personnel
- Protect personnel and equipment during train movement
- Operate railroad radios, marine radios, and phones
- Communicate with Dispatching Office and Trainmasters as needed for proper train movement
- Relay information from the USCG to barge traffic about restrictions at the bridge
- Perform various administrative functions such as ordering and maintaining small amounts of office supplies, preparing various reports, and completing various forms
- Perform basic janitorial duties necessary to keep work area clean
CONTROL OPERATOR
- Safely manage all train and engine movement in, out and around a terminal complex
- Remotely operate track switches using a computer to allow for the safe movement of inbound and outbound trains and to protect employees working in the railyards
- Protect personnel working within the terminal complex by providing and maintaining track block protection for track and locomotive mechanical maintenance work being performed
- Perform various clerical and administrative tasks, such as typing; filing; sorting, delivering and mailing letters and packages; and using a computer to prepare reports and various types of correspondence
- Drive a BNSF crew van to safely transport train crews within a 200-mile radius. This responsibility could require driving in and around rail yards, city and highway traffic, in difficult weather conditions, on rough terrain and to remote locations
Daily work is conducted in a safety sensitive environment where the working conditions can include diverse and extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet), walking and performing work on uneven surfaces, working around loud noises, fumes, and heavy/moving machinery.

Basic Qualifications:

At least 18 years of age, or will be by the anticipated start date listed above

Valid, state-issued driver’s license

Ability to read, write and communicate (speak, hear and understand) English

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

Ability to visually distinguish colors - red, blue, green, yellow and lunar (clear light)

Ability to discriminate and differentiate between verbal and non-verbal sounds (signals, alarms, etc.) in the work environment

Ability to learn to identify, interpret and use hand signals from near and far and visually judge the speed and distance of moving objects

Ability to use hands and hand tools to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning and pulling

Ability to bend, walk, stand and sit for several hours with breaks

Basic level skills in Microsoft Office Suite programs (i.e., Excel, Outlook, Word) with prior experience using Microsoft Office Suite programs in either a professional or academic setting
Union membership is with the Transportation Communications Union (TCU) and union dues are required per union agreement.
