ACRI is seeking a qualified, motivated Staff Scientist to join a busy and well-funded laboratory of Dr. Siddaiah. This lab focuses on understanding the mechanisms of miRNAs and transcriptomics on vascular remodeling in the context of pulmonary hypertension in preterm infants with chronic lung disease. The qualified personnel will be able to work independently, overseeing project implementation, monitoring progress, developing and managing operational databases for projects focusing on cellular, biochemical, and molecular biology techniques.The primary responsibilities will include developing, designing, managing and executing experiments applying Cell culture (cell treatment, harvesting, transfection), as well as molecular biology techniques (DNA and RNA extraction, exosome isolation, quantitative real-time PCR, Western blot analysis, ELISAs, immunohistochemistry). The position will require processing of human saliva, tracheal aspirate, blood, stool and urine samples under approved protocols. This position may require working with research subject screening and consenting and aliquoting samples before storing in the freezer and maintaining a log of samples. Maintain inventory of raw materials, buffers and reagents record keeping. Order all equipment/items for the laboratory (staying within budget and allowable) for all grants as well as general lab needs. This position will request price quotes and PO's.
Ideal candidates will have an advanced degree (Masters or a PhD) with a proficient knowledge of principles, practices and procedures required to conduct basic science and translational research. As part of the process, this position will be expected to take responsibility for the following areas of research: -Manage small projects, including determining feasibility and rigor of goals and objectives and assuring the project is being conducted in the most cost and time-efficient manner. -Review progress and evaluate results -Responsible for identifying approaches to troubleshooting processes by proposing various technical solutions and methods of executing said solutions. -Must be knowledgeable and up to date on the latest techniques and research equipment that is specific to this lab and this complex research. This may include extending technology into new application areas. Also, advise the Senior PI with updated solutions and troubleshooting solutions as necessary. -Expected to develop new techniques, concepts, programs and solutions and apply them to complex issues -Utilize graphics and statistical software to analyze data for presentations in research conferences and for manuscript preparation. -Supervise other members of the research program to students and trainees. In addition, there will be opportunities to attend relevant scientific meetings, facilitate social media engagement, assist with community engagement and fundraising efforts for the research program.
It is required for the incumbent to regularly and effectively communicate with the PI and the team, maintain a high degree of professionalism, demonstrate time management and priority setting skills, and possess flexibility to work in a dynamic environment, keeping in mind that occasionally some of the cell line work which might need flexible working hours.

Description
1. Works independently as part of a research project/program.
2. Under the direction of the Investigator, writes detailed protocols for the conduct of research and contributes to the design, interpretation and final writing of research publications.
3. Analyzes and evaluates experimental data and interprets results within the scope of work and in relation to the general research program. Prepares written reports on phases of laboratory work involved in research projects.
4. Keeps abreast of trends in field of interest by reading current research literature, abstracting scientific articles of value in the prosecution of research problems, and attending and presenting at scientific meetings, seminars and research conferences.
5. Gathers research materials, supplies, equipment and apparatus. Coordinates service support: repair of equipment, requisitioning of supplies and research materials. Selects procedures for data collection and handling; develops or utilizes computer programs for conversions and statistical analysis of data.
6. Participates in the training of research support staff, fellows, and students. Conducts initial training as well as continuous skill development of staff/trainees in laboratory techniques and instrumentation procedures, as needed. Counsels staff/trainees on minor technical problems; may advise and assist staff/trainees with special research projects. Manages research expenditures.
7. Assists in proposal development and in facilitating new directions for the lab. Works with PI to develop plans for personnel and resources. Performs procedures to ensure experimental validity and keeps appropriate records.
