                                                                                        POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

 

TITLE:  LIBRARIAN/MEDIA SPECIALIST 

            GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP CAMPUS

 

QUALIFICATIONS:             

 

 1.  Applicant must possess a valid New Jersey Educational Media Specialist certificate.

 

 2.  Attention to detail; technology skill.

 

 3. Successfully undergo a criminal history check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.

 

 4. Meet the health qualifications required of all personnel.

 

 5.  Meets NJ residency requirements or willingness to relocate to NJ within 365 days of employment.

 

 6.  Must follow the guidelines of the Camden County Technical Schools' Nepotism Policy, File Code: 0142.1.

 

Salary is based on education, experience and/or military service according to the Board of Education of the Camden County Technical Schools and the Federation of Educational Services Professional Agreement Salary Guide - $55,000-$90,000.  This is a full-time, 10-month position.

Interviews are at the discretion of the superintendent and/or designee and based on qualifications for the position.

POSITION GOALS:               To assist in the operation and maintenance of the library and media center, as well as to assist staff and students with

                                                 library services.

 

REPORTS TO:                        Supervisor assigned per the CCTS’ Organizational Chart

 

PERFORMANCE

RESPONSIBILITIES:        

 

  1.  Direct the operation and maintenance of the library which includes the use of the facilities and equipment.

 

  2.  Direct the activities of personnel assigned to the library.

 

  3.  Direct and participate in the organization and presentation of approved library programs and activities.

 

  4.  Direct and participate in the safe and secure use of instructional materials and equipment.  Provide for student and

       staff safety within the library. To supervise the evacuation of the library and the closing down of the library during fire

                                                         drills.

 

  5.  Cooperate with administrators and supervisors in planning, developing, formulating and implementing programs,

       procedures and operational guidelines involving the library and/or its staff.

 

  6.  Recommend and plan expenditures for materials and supplies for the library. Supervise staff input and initiate orders

       for print and non-print materials, supplies and equipment by selecting, verifying need and checking to avoid

       duplication.

 

  7.  Cooperate with the staff in updating, improving and maintaining services, technology and providing relevant                           materials in subject areas and the professional collection.

 

  8.  Supervise and/or perform the following:

             a.       Pre-cataloging activities (receiving)

             b.       Descriptive cataloging

             c.       Classification

             d.       Processing print and non-print materials

             e.       Post-cataloging activities

             f.        Maintenance of the collections; print and non-print, and the vertical files.

             g.       Technology upgrades

 

   9. Take the annual inventory in the spring of each year and submit the report to the principal. 

 

 10. Cooperate with administrators and supervisors in conducting workshops and in-service programs.

 

 11. Plan, develop and present an approved library orientation to new staff and students.

 

 12. Determine reading interests of students in order to provide reading materials for student use.

 

 13. Review and abstract materials of interest to students and staff.  Refer timely materials and articles to the subject

       matter instructors.

 

 14. Assist staff and student users in location and selection of appropriate materials.

 

 15. Maintain technology assigned to the library and report technology maintenance as needed.   

 

 16. Maintain a positive atmosphere in the library, conducive to work, study, and non-assigned reading.  Establish and

       follow through on library rules and regulations.

 

 17. Attend library/media organization meetings, workshops, conferences, and conventions to maintain and update

       librarian/media specialist professional skills and awareness when assigned.

 

 18. Maintain the collections and perform minor repairs as needed.  When the item to be repaired is beyond the scope of

       the library staff, make out a maintenance request form and submit it to the division head.  Make recommendations of

       any items that need to be discarded from the collection in the proper format.

 

 19. Devise a plan to keep the technology of the library updated so that the library is automated to meet current and future

       demands.

 

 20. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor per the CCTS’ Organizational Chart/or designee.
