Requirements

Responsibilities

Evaluations & Roof Asset Management

  • Conduct on-site investigations, surveys, and analyses of commercial and industrial roofs.
  • Perform infrared moisture surveys and verify findings. Prepare comprehensive evaluation reports, including photos, measurements, and testing results.
  • Develop, justify, and present repair, replacement, and maintenance recommendations that align with client goals and budgets.
  • Support national, multi-facility clients with long-term roof management programs.

Design-Bid Phase Services, Documents & Technical Specifications

  • Perform highly detailed commercial roof design investigations.
  • Research and incorporate codes and insurance requirements.
  • Identify and prioritize project-specific design criteria, develop viable options for client consideration, and prepare narrative design development reports to communicate design options and recommendations to clients.
  • Collaborate with architects and clients on building enclosure, system constructability, and design concepts.
  • Assist in prequalification of contractors and preparation of bid packages.
  • Develop detailed, customized plans and specifications for competitive bidding.
  • Assist with bidder prequalification, conduct and facilitate pre-bid meetings to clarify project scope and requirements, issue addenda and responses to contractor questions.
  • Evaluate and analyze contractor bids, preparing recommendations for award.

Construction Phase Services

This seat will support the internal Project Manager (Roof) with construction-phase responsibilities or will assume direct responsibility for these activities if an internal Project Manager (Roof) is not assigned or available:

  • Coordinate and oversee construction-phase project activities and contract requirements, including:
    • Lead the pre-construction meetings and facilitate weekly progress meetings.
    • Review contractor material submittals, requests for information (RFI's), and change order requests.
    • Manage project schedules and budgets in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Review/facilitate processing of contractor payment applications.
    • Conduct final inspections and issue completion punch lists.
    • Oversee and ensure completion of project closeout documentation (construction updates and closeout files) in partnership with Drafting Technicians and Project Coordinators.
  • Review and interpret project plans, drawings, and specifications to ensure proper execution, adherence to design intent, and compliance with quality standards.
  • Support Field Consultant work through peer review of Daily Construction Reports (DCR's) and provide timely and constructive feedback.
  • Assist with reinforcing expectations for Field Consultants related to on-site project management and technical excellence.
  • Visit project sites as needed to support Quality Assurance efforts and to reinforce/strengthen relationships with consultants, clients, and contractors.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects, balancing schedules, resources, and priorities.

Quality Assurance & Technical Excellence

  • Provide peer quality control review of deliverables from other teams.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge-sharing and lessons learned.
  • Participate in refinement of standards, details, and processes to maintain Benchmark's industry-leading quality standards.

Client Relationships & Communication

  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to client facility managers, engineers, and stakeholders.
  • Communicate findings, recommendations, and project updates clearly and persuasively.
  • Collaborate across Benchmark teams (Field, Project Managers, Drafters, Admin and Sales) to deliver seamless client service.

Mentorship & Leadership

  • Mentor and train junior consultants, sharing expertise and best practices.
  • Demonstrate leadership in both client-facing and internal team settings.
  • Contribute to a culture of integrity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure Benchmark's adherence to OSHA and client-specific safety requirements while on project sites.
  • Maintain certifications and training relevant to field safety and commercial roof construction environments.

Key Relationships

The Roof Consultant (Staff/Senior) reports to the Roof Operations Manager and a Consultant Coach or Pod Leader and is responsible for delivering technical expertise and consulting services across the evaluation, design-bid, and construction phases of our clients’ commercial roofing projects. They will work closely with Project Managers, Field Consultants, Sales Team, Drafters, and Project Coordinators as well as with external stakeholders including our clients, commercial roof contractors, manufacturers, and other design/engineering partners.


Qualifications

Required

  • Willing and able to travel nationwide (approximately 50% of time) by air and vehicle (automobile).
  • Relevant experience in commercial/industrial roof design, construction, quality assurance, and/or consulting.
  • Able to apply technical skills and research to meet project demands and solve commercial roof problems for our clients.
  • Able to build and maintain positive client relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining quality and client satisfaction.
  • Strong passion in the continuous pursuit of technical excellence, learning and improvement.
  • Proficient with use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and mobile technology (iPad, smartphone, laptop).
  • Able to read, interpret, and provide a high level of input into the production of construction drawings and technical specifications.
  • Strong written, verbal, and graphic communication skills.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to: (1) lift at least 50 pounds, (2) access the client's roof through the use of ladders, stairs, and/or steps, (3) sit, stand, walk, and stoop for extended periods of time, and (4) crawl in and out of otherwise inaccessible locations on an occasional/as needed basis.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree (Structural or Construction Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management) or related discipline.
  • IIBEC Registered Roof Consultant (RRC) credential – strong preference will be given to candidates who hold this credential.
  • IIBEC Registered Roof Observer (RRO) credential – a common precursor to the RRC credential.
  • Experience leading projects in a related field/industry, such as engineering, architecture, construction management or roof system manufacturing.
  • Project management, design and/or construction administration experience with commercial and industrial roofing projects.
  • Experience preparing plans, specifications and bid documents for commercial roof projects.
  • Experience with developing new business and estimating and/or writing proposals for future opportunities.
  • Experience mentoring junior team members and contributing to professional development.
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (Benchmark uses Deltek Vantagepoint).
  • Experience working in EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) environments.
