The San Bruno Police Department
The San Bruno Police Department has a long-standing tradition of small-town service with a big-city dedication to public safety. Examples of Duties
Serves as the lead investigator and subject-matter expert for complex or high-profile code enforcement cases.
Coordinates closely with sworn personnel, public works, fire prevention, planning, and legal staff to address multi-jurisdictional code violations.
Maintains accurate case records, reports, and documentation to support administrative actions, citations, or legal proceedings.
Represents the City and the Police Department at hearings, city council meetings, and community outreach events.
Responds to public inquiries and complaints with professionalism, empathy, and technical expertise.
Monitors trends, emerging community issues, and legislative changes impacting code enforcement operations. Assures that assigned areas of responsibility are consistent with local, State and Federal regulations; stays current on related policies, regulations and trends.
Participates in the development of policies and procedures; develops and recommends programs and projects to higher level personnel.
Participates in the selection and training of maintenance personnel; assumes responsibility for motivating and evaluating assigned personnel; provides necessary training; initiates discipline procedures as is appropriate.
Participates in the development of assigned budget; administers and monitors the approved budget; prepares cost estimates and bids for maintenance and repair activities; maintains supply inventories and supply and budgetary records; prepares requisitions and orders needed materials, parts and equipment.
Establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies and associations, City management and staff and the public.
Must be available to occasionally work evenings and weekend hours and/or respond to emergencies.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school or equivalent, and at least five (5) years of municipal code enforcement experience with at least one (1) year in a lead or senior role. Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in planning, construction technology or a related field may be substituted for two (2) years of the experience requirement. Building inspection experience is highly desirable.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATE
Possession of and the ability to maintain a valid California Class C driver's license and a safe driving record. Certification from CACEO (California Association of Code Enforcement Officers) or similar organization is preferred or must be obtained within one year of appointment.
Possession of an I.C.B.O.
Building Inspection certificate (or other similar
professional certification) is desirable and may be substituted for two years of the
required experience. Penal Code 832 certification is also desirable.

OTHER INFORMATION
Since this position works out of the police department and will have access to Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) and other data sources protected by State and Federal law, this position is required to complete an extensive background verification, which includes non-sworn personnel DOJ and FBI level livescan fingerprinting requirement and psychological evaluation. The background process may also include the use of a polygraph examination.
Pursuant to California Government Code Section 3100, all public employees are required to serve as disaster service workers subject to such disaster service activities as may be assigned to them by their supervisor or by law.
