Duties

You will serve as a Training and Curriculum Specialist and be responsible for delivering a comprehensive training program to Child Development Center (CDC) employees and to CDS Family Child Care (FCC) providers, assist with the implementation of a developmentally appropriate curriculum program that fosters the physical, social, emotional, cognitive and language development of children and youth ages 6 weeks to 12 years and promote school readiness and support ongoing school success. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Providing training to CDC employees and FCC providers. Utilizing child and youth development and training expertise to role model, mentor, coordinate and provide training. Developing working relationships with local and online colleges, universities and professional organizations. Maintaining training records and establishing a standardized Individual Development Plan (IDP) for each CDS employee and FCC provider. Coordinating programming that supports the children and youth's physical, social, emotional, cognitive and language development. Reviewing lesson plans to ensure they are appropriate and based on curriculum requirements. Ensuring all childcare personnel meet training requirements as set by local, State, and Federal agencies, along with standards set by the accrediting agency. Mandatory training is required which must be successfully completed and other training may occur as necessary for success in the position. The incumbent is a mandatory reporter of suspected incidences of child abuse and neglect. The incumbent is subject to a pre-employment medical examination and is required to maintain bi-annual reassessment that includes appropriate adult immunizations per the Center for Disease Control recommendations, NAEYC criteria, and Commandant Instructions regarding Child Development Services and Civilian Occupational Health.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: This position has a positive Education Requirement in addition to at least one year of Specialized Experience or substitution of education for experience or combination (if applicable) in order to be found minimally qualified. You MUST meet the following requirements: EDUCATION: Basic Requirements: Degree that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to the normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in A above. AND In addition to the basic requirement listed above: To qualify at the GS-07 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Superior Academic Achievement(SAA) is met through one of the following: Ranked in the upper one-third of your graduating class; OR earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher out of 4.0 as recorded on your official transcript, or based on courses completed during final 2 years of curriculum; OR earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher out of 4.0, based on the average of required courses completed in your major or required courses in your major completed during the final 2 years of curriculum; OR election to membership in a national scholastic honor society. To qualify at the GS-09 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. OR 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. Have a combination of directly related work experience and graduate level education. Combinations of successfully completed graduate education as described above and specialized experience as described above may be used to meet the total qualification requirements. Combination of Graduate Education and Professional Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Only graduate level education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be combined with experience. NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with your application. This position does have a positive education requirement.
