Position:
The City of Grand Junction is seeking a Parks Equipment Operator. In this role, you will perform a variety of duties related to the maintenance of city grounds, parks, and cemeteries, all part of a 350-acre developed park system. You will also inspect and maintain playgrounds and play equipment, diagnose and recommend repairs for various park infrastructure and equipment. We are looking for a motivated, hardworking, and team-oriented individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, has excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and has an organized approach to maintenance scheduling and execution. What You'll Do:

  • Operate a variety of equipment, including dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, tractors, forklifts, groundskeeping equipment, snow removal equipment, and a wide range of power and hand tools.
  • Inspect the condition of systems, grounds, playgrounds, equipment, and facilities, identifying and performing installations, repairs, and replacements as needed.
  • Clean and maintain assigned areas, including grounds, cemeteries, and play areas, by picking up debris and litter.
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring and fixtures in assigned facilities.
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from customers and the general public.
  • Identify and prepare the necessary supplies and equipment for each assigned project.
  • Participate in the completion of general maintenance activities such as painting, light construction, pouring concrete, welding and fabricating, and plumbing.
  • Lead and direct the activities of temporary staff assigned to assist you.
  • Additionally, you'll provide outstanding customer service, respond quickly to resolve issues, and help ensure the safety of park patrons.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For:

  • One year (1) of general labor experience. 
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver’s license.
  • Some assignments in this classification may require the possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Colorado Commercial driver’s license.

Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted. 

This position is a safety position, which means you will be subject to random drug screens due to the nature of the work performed.

The Parks and Recreation Department enhances the quality of life in Grand Junction by maintaining and developing vibrant recreational spaces and facilities for residents and visitors. The department manages 45 parks, 25 playgrounds, 24 park shelters, 5 indoor recreation facilities including the Orchard Mesa Pool, Lincoln Park Hospitality Suite, the Bookcliff Activity Center, Lincoln Park Barn, and the Senior Recreation Center, and a multitude of outdoor facilities which include the Lincoln Park-Moyer Pool, 2 City Cemeteries, Amphitheater at Las Colonias and the Lincoln Park Stadium Sports Complex.
