Job Description:
The Digital Media Specialist & Communications Coordinator plays a vital role in promoting York Country Day School (YCDS) by creating engaging digital content, managing social media platforms, updating and maintaining the school’s website, and supporting the school’s broader communications and marketing strategy. This position blends day-to-day digital storytelling with strategic communications work to strengthen the school’s visibility, support enrollment and advancement initiatives, and celebrate the life of the school community. The Digital Media Specialist & Communications Coordinator partners with Admissions, Advancement, and program leaders to support enrollment, retention, and community engagement, while highlighting the mission and achievements of the school.

Outcomes: 
This position will be evaluated on and expected to :

  • Growth in social media engagement and audience reach by agreed-upon benchmarks. 
  • Consistent posting cadence (e.g., 5-10 posts per week during the school year). 
  • Timely coverage of key school events and milestones. 
  • Increased reach and engagement for admissions- and advancement-related campaigns. 
  • Positive community feedback on communications and event coverage. 
  • Improvement in analytics for digital campaigns (e.g., social media engagement, email open and click rates, website traffic).

Position Duties

Digital Media & Social Media (50%)

  • Develop and manage the school’s integrated online presence across digital platforms (primarily Instagram and Facebook).
  • Create engaging, brand-consistent content (photography, videography, graphics, copywriting) that highlights academics, student life, athletics, and the arts. 
  •  Monitor analytics and engagement to evaluate effectiveness and adjust strategies accordingly.
 Website & Publications (25%)
  • Serve as the primary manager for the school’s website, ensuring content is accurate, timely, and aligned with strategic messaging. 
  • Support the creation, editing, and posting of content (text, images, and video) to highlight school programs and events. 
  • Assist with newsletters and publications for Division Heads, Admissions, and other school personnel.
      
Strategic Marketing & Operational Communications (25%)
  • Support the development and execution of annual communications and campaign plans that promote the school. 
  • Collaborate with Admissions and Advancement to develop communications that support student recruitment, retention, and alumni/family engagement. 
  • Promote student and faculty achievements across departments, including Athletics and the Arts. 
  • Cultivate positive relationships with parents, alumni, and local organizations through communications efforts. 
  • In partnership with other school leaders, maintain a communications calendar to ensure timely coverage of school events and milestones. 
  • Support the Head of School and leadership team with strategic communications as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or related field. 
  • 3–5 years of experience in marketing, communications, or social media management (experience in independent schools or nonprofits preferred). 

Other Qualifications

  • Strong skills in photography, videography, and editing (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar). 
  • Demonstrated success in social media marketing and content creation. 
  • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills with attention to detail. 
  • Highly organized, creative, and able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments. 
  • Appreciation for and understanding of the mission of York Country Day School.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work required to cover school events.
