POSITION DESCRIPTION


Position Title: Recreation Coordinator Assistant Department: Adult Services


Classification: Part-time Reports To: Director of Vocational Services


POSITION PURPOSE

Assist with planning and implementing Friday Night Hangouts, ACCESS Night Out and ACCESS

Clubs. 


Essential Functions & Basic Duties

  • Assist with planning and coordinating details of each event. 
  • Ensure that all students/clients are properly supervised while attending events. 
  • Provide hands-on support and encouragement to participants to promote engagement and skill-building.
  • Ensure participant safety during activities, including monitoring group dynamics and assisting with mobility or adaptive needs as required. 
  • Assists with preparing food/snacks for various events. 
  • Help set up and clean up activity spaces, materials and equipment. 
  • Support participants in developing social connections, teamwork, and positive communication. 
  • Communicates with Recreation Coordinator if any needs or issues arise during events. 
  • Must have a driving record that meets ACCESS’ policy and the insurance carrier underwriter guidelines.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, current basic liability coverage on personal vehicle, and proof of insurance and current vehicle registration, as required. 
  • Ensures that all necessary paperwork is complete and timely.
  • Perform other related or non-related duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/ Certification:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience/ Knowledge required:

  • Experience in working with children or adults with developmental disabilities preferred. 

 Skills/ Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with a wide variety of people.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work with programming team to develop and implement behavior plans for the members when necessary.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out programming effectively.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, environments and situations can change quickly. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear for extended periods of time. They may need to be able to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time. They may need to bend, squat, stretch, twist, or reach out with the body, arms and/or legs as required. Must be able to work in cold environments (walk-in refrigerators/freezers) and outdoors during high temperatures for extended periods of time. Must be able to drive for extended periods of time and able to lift at least 20 pounds. Must be able to tolerate varying noise levels in different work environments. Must be able to adapt to the needs of current work environment. 

Employee must also use varying forms of technology, including, work cell phone, laptop, and iPad. They also must be able to teach interns how to use various forms of technology. They must be able to write daily and monthly reports and complete all required documentation. Must be able to maintain a high level of mental concentration and be able to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

This position is designated as “safety sensitive” under Arkansas Act 593 of 2017, an amendment to the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment of 2016, meaning that a person performing this position under the influence of marijuana may constitute a threat to health or safety.

QUALIFICATIONS

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 18 years’ old
  • Previous experience working with children or adults with developmental disabilities

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or more up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate.


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimal travel is required for this position; this travel should not include transporting students/clients.
  • ACCESS drivers are required to maintain a valid Driver’s License, current auto liability insurance and registration, a clean driving record, and physical ability to drive to local locations throughout Arkansas.
