The Cottonwood school is a tuition-free, public charter school serving transitional kindergarten through 12th-grade students in Alpine, Amador, El Dorado, Placer, and Sacramento Counties. Location: This position is expected to work on-site at our El Dorado Hills school office 5 days a week. This position is not eligible for telecommuting.


Position Summary

Under the direction of the Library Supervisor, the Library Specialist ensures the smooth and efficient operation of the Resource Center. The Library Specialist is responsible for receiving shipments, helping students, parents, and teachers locate books and materials, checking books and materials in and out, shelving books according to their categorization, and shipping materials to families.


Required Qualifications

? High school diploma or equivalent

? Must live in Northern California and be able to commute to El Dorado Hills


Preferred Qualifications

? Experience working at a charter school

Duties and Responsibilities

? Sort and shelve library books and materials in the Resource Center E

? Check books out to families, organize books on carts, prepare books for pick up, and receive shipments. E

? Pull books from receivables or stacks and prepare materials for shipping to families. E

? Ensure shipment of materials from the Resource Center to families. E

? Support and lead story time sessions to promote literacy and engagement with families. E

? Drive the school van to transport student materials. E

? Check-in books upon their return from families and/or teachers. E

? Inspect the condition of books and materials before and after check-out to ascertain any damage. E

? Upon the return of books, reshelve the books in the correct location. E

? Maintain accurate inventory in the system. E

? Assist families in finding resources and/or materials in the Resource Center. E

? Manage inquiries within the Resource Center via email, and on the telephone. E

? Assist with Resource Center events.

? May assist with cataloging new books and materials in the Resource Center


Other Duties

? Respond to non-urgent communication within 24 school hours and urgent communication within two school hours. E

? Attend all required virtual and in-person meetings/events as assigned. E

? Resolve escalated employee, parent, and student issues in alignment with core values and ensuring compliance with the school’s Uniform Complaint Policy, Technology Use Policy, and the provisions of California Penal Code Section 11166 (Child Abuse and

Neglect Reporting Act). E

? Perform other duties as assigned.

? Ability to work collaboratively with staff members and administration as well as build strong relationships with students, staff, parents, and community

? Capable of managing tasks with competing priorities

? Ability to display tact and courtesy at all times and provide excellent customer service

? Excellent written and verbal communication skills

? Comfortable driving the school van to transport student materials

? Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Google (docs, sheets, forms, drives), and data management environments

Environment including Hazardous Conditions

This position may include indoor offices/classrooms and outdoor work (including eating and common area(s), auditorium, playground(s), restroom(s), stairs if applicable, and parking lot(s))  with the following possible exposures: dust; wind; sun; insects; bloodborne pathogens and biohazardous waste; variances in weather conditions (snow, rain, sleet, etc.); noise which can
