Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking a Historic Tax Credits (HTC) manager to develop and grow a book of business and lead a portfolio of client projects involving federal and state historic tax credit applications. This role will develop and grow an HTC practice for Stantec, advising developers, property owners, investors, and architects on accessing tax credits for historic rehabilitation projects while meeting regulatory and design standards. The HTC manager will lead project pursuit from opportunity identification and proposal submittal and delivery from initial feasibility assessment through post-closing compliance, serve as the primary client contact, and contribute to business development and thought leadership.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, identify new opportunities, and lead/contribute to proposals and presentations.
- Manage clients, pursuit opportunities, project budgets, timelines, and quality deliverables while ensuring compliance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
- Provide strategic HTC feasibility analysis and guidance.
- Lead preparation and submission of federal and state HTC certification applications (Parts 1–3 / state equivalents).
- Interpret and communicate reviewer feedback from SHPOs, the National Park Service and other stakeholder agencies.
- Grow the team through recruiting and mentoring/training of new staff. Additional duties may include support for local and National Register of Historic Places nominations, preservation plans, historic structure reports, cultural resource education materials, Historic American Buildings Survey/Historic American Engineering Record (HABS/HAER) documentation, planning and implementing of mitigation, and other types of special projects.
- Review and advise on rehabilitation plans, materials, and specifications.
- Create and maintain internal relationships across Stantec’s practices and geographies to promote cross-selling of services.
- Contribute to marketing content and internal training.
- Complete work in line with Stantec’s Core Values and in accordance with our Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) procedures and Design Delivery Guidelines.
- Demonstrate active commitment to Stantec’s code of business conduct and ethics policies.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- In-depth knowledge of the federal HTC program, state HTC programs, and the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards, understanding state and federal regulations and adapt to client-specific requirements.
- Strong technical and project management skills with experience managing multiple concurrent client projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including being able to translate technical concepts for clients and reviewers.
- Collaborative team player with an entrepreneurial consulting mindset and client-service orientation.
- Strong proficiency with relevant software tools.
- Must be willing to travel to meet project needs.
- Requires valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Historic Preservation, Architectural History, Architecture, Planning, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 7+ years’ professional experience in HTC consulting with application preparation experience.
- Prior management experience preferred.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
