TBD Additional Information: Show/Hide - Maintain school buildings and grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities.
- Perform preventive maintenance, repair, and installation in connection with:
- Electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems
- Exterior and interior of buildings
- School grounds
- School vehicles and equipment
- Act as substitute custodian when necessary and follow the same expectations and building work schedule.
- Assists with snow removal to ensure the safety of students, staff and public.
- Assists with yard keeping chores such as grass cutting, tree trimming, weeding, and other necessary tasks to maintain safe and attractive school grounds.
- Work overtime when emergencies arise in order to prevent disruption of the schools.
- Maintains building cleaning rotation schedule and organizes and sets up for scheduled building events including weekend sports, graduation, and other types of school activities.
- Assist with the unloading/loading of freight and materials.
- Assist with small scale concrete jobs when needed around the district.
- Assist with playground equipment installation.
- Ability to initiate and complete work orders.
- Obeys all state and federal laws in the safe operation of district owned or rented service trucks, tractors, and other motorized equipment. Inspects vehicle or motorized equipment daily to ensure safe operations, (including fluid levels). Reports problems to transportation maintenance staff in writing, using district repair form.
- Attends work on a reliable and punctual basis.
- Complies with district policies, employee handbook, and worker rules.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Buildings & Grounds or designee.
Uses hand tools of trade and related power equipment, including brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners, snow blowers, shovels, power mower and hand tools.
Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment used in the performance of duties.
Wears appropriate safety gear.
Must comply with the school district's chemical safety program.
Occasional travel between schools, or between schools and central office may be required.
- Ability to follow oral or written work orders.
- Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
- Ability to communicate orally or in writing all cleaning, maintenance or repair problems.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
- Ability to work above ground from ladders.
- Ability to perform work according to standard procedures and schedule set forth by supervisor(s).
- Ability to use basic technology to communicate through email and utilize the District’s absence management system.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Experience in buildings and grounds operations preferred.
- Must be able to successfully pass a Physical Demand Assessment.
- Certification of good health signed by a licensed physician.
- Driver’s license at time of appointment and maintenance of said license for the duration of employment.
- Familiarity with computers and software relating to maintenance.
- Ability to read chemical labels and material safety data sheets (MSDS).
- Ability to safely operate trucks, tractors, riding lawn mowers,heavy equipment - i.e. skid loader/end loader/scissor lifts, and related accessories.
- Possess knowledge and work experience pertaining to equipment as cutting torches & welders preferred.
- Possess knowledge and work experience with wet/dry vacuums, buffers, floor cleaning & polishing machines preferred.
- Must obtain Asbestos Operations & Maintenance certification within 1 year of employment.
- Physical abilities to meet job requirements and the ability to demonstrate aptitude for successful fulfillment of assigned performance responsibilities.
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
- Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects and materials over 50+ pounds.
- Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching.
- Requires climbing and balancing.
