Job Description

This position will perform heavy manual work in the installation, service, and repair of fluid power equipment and hydraulic systems on water control structures, gates, tools, and navigation locks within Region 2 (Miami, BCB, Ft. Lauderdale, and Homestead Field Stations area of responsibility).  Incumbent will perform preventive maintenance and repairs on 24 hydraulic systems, conducting 48 PMs per year plus breakdowns. 
 
This position will continue to support the Structure Maintenance program by performing mechanical work associated with the maintenance and repair of 33 automated structures and gates in the Miami area of responsibility.  Incumbent will utilize hand and power tools, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, read and follow job specifications, blueprints, and diagrams. 


All other duties assigned.
 
This position is subject to random mandatory drug and alcohol testing.
 
The Miami Field Station work hours are Monday – Thursday, 6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
 
Employment Guidelines
High School Diploma or GED and 4+ years' experience in fluid power and hydraulic-driven equipment installation and repair work. 
The salary range for this position is $51,043.20 to $60,112.00 (based on education and years of relevant work experience). An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.


Licenses and Certifications
Valid State of Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) without restriction to operate a vehicle equipped with a manual transmission and air brakes. If the selected candidate does not currently possess a CDL, the District will provide 30 days to obtain a CDL Learner's Permit and 3 months from the date of hire to obtain a CDL. The district is willing to pay the cost of the CDL training program.
 
Ability to obtain certification in rigging, forklift operations, First Aid/CPR/AED.



Physical Requirements
Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times be required to provide support before, during, and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on the assigned emergency response role.

Primarily field work with regular exposure to unpredictable weather conditions. The work environment may be hot and humid with no facilities.

Overtime will be required based on weather and/or environmental conditions.
 
Regularly sets up, adjusts, controls, tests, and operates equipment to complete assignments. Moves or otherwise transports equipment weighing up to 50 pounds or more.

This position normally involves daily travel from the employee’s assigned station to work sites located within the District’s jurisdiction. Some assignments require travel to remote locations and may require travel throughout the state of Florida.
