This is a hands-on role, with frequent site-based responsibilities - overseeing testing, inspection and validation of MV and LV systems and associated equipment.
You'll spend your time:
- Performing testing, inspection, and maintenance of MV and LV systems including switchgear, transformers, and control systems.
- Ensure correct and accurate test reports, benchmarked against current MV and LV standards.
- Conducting fault-finding and remedial works on HV and LV electrical systems.
- Use specialist test equipment (e.g., Genset, loadbanks, grid simulators, insulation resistance testers, primary injection kits, contact resistance meters) to verify performance and compliance.
- Diagnose, document, and resolve electrical faults, escalating complex issues to engineers when necessary.
- Support commissioning and system validation prior to handover to operations teams.
- Maintain, calibrate, and verify test instruments to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Prepare accurate collaboration with external bodies and independent entities, prepare inspections, and safety checks.
- Assist with equipment handling during test setups and deployments.
- Work alongside Engineers and Authorised Persons to ensure all testing activities meet safety and operational standards.
- Participate in the on-call rota, supporting urgent testing and fault response for critical assets.
The key experience we're looking for:
- 5 years of experience in electrical distribution, HV testing, or industrial electrical environments.
- Proficient in electrical testing and diagnostic techniques for HV and LV equipment.
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety standards, including HV and LV permit-to-work systems.
- Strong ability to deliver results, address technical challenges, and resolve issues independently or as part of a team.
- Capable of producing clear, auditable documentation of all testing activities.
- Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel to multiple sites.
- Test & Inspection (BS2391) certification.
- HV Awareness training or HV switching experience.
- First Aid certification.
- Previous experience with DNOs, utilities, or grid-connected systems.
- Familiarity with ENA specifications, BS7671 standards, and substation operations.
