The Artistic and Production Associate reports to the Director of Theatre Operations, Emerson Stage. A key member of the Emerson Stage management and production team, they will work alongside the production department, faculty and performing arts students to produce the 2025-26 Emerson Stage season.This is a 9 month position that will last a maximum of 3 years.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Meet the needs of each production in consultation with the Director of Theatre Operations and Production Manager as well as the other department heads
Organize and supervise students engaged in co-curricular production work, various class labs, or working as student employees
Support Director of Theatre Operations and Production Manager with ensuring there is clear and consistent communication between Emerson Stage staff, faculty and students
Alongside Director of Theatre Operations, develop and manage the student office assistants and their responsibilities (website maintenance, social media, student performer tracker, etc.)
Devise an Emerson Stage orientation guide for visiting artists
Assist in creating the platform for season show selection and organizing the process
Organize the student casting process including cast lists, call backs and director communication
Work with Production Manager on designer mentorship and the design process, including budget and timeline management
Mentor production and stage management students throughout the Emerson Stage production process
Represent Emerson Stage with student-produced productions through the Student Theatre Alliance
Produce New Fest: Short Works production, handling all production and artistic elements
Support with the development of the annual student showcase in Boston and NYC
Provide dramaturgy to Emerson Stage directors, if necessary
Attend production and staff meetings; lead production meetings when necessary
Perform other duties, as required
QUALIFICATIONS – Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform job.
Bachelor’s degree in theater production or arts management required
3-5 years of experience in theatre production and/or management required
Experience managing, instructing and supervising production teams required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES – May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with the job.
Ability to understand, enjoy, and communicate effectively with academic-oriented individuals
Enthusiasm for collaborating with college-aged individuals
Strong communication, organization and time management skills
Experience working with artistically oriented individuals
Strong oral and writing skills
Basic knowledge of Microsoft and Google Suites
Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects
Ability to prioritize goals and implement plans
Ability to solve problems and conflict
Strong analytical skills
Be willing and enthusiastic to assist others and work in a team setting

Working in theaters – front of house and backstage, and a studio environment; conditions will vary depending on the show and phase of the production

As a 9 month position, salary range is $39,000 - $46,837 annually, commensurate with experience.
