A Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Specialist (MLS) is a laboratory medicine specialist who collects patient specimens, accurately completes the required analytical tests according to acceptable techniques, verifies results, and reports the findings to the appropriate healthcare provider. A MLT/MLS must be certain that all reported results are accurate. They must demonstrate empathy and professional concern in all patient contacts. The MLT/MLS ensures consistent regulatory compliance, coordinates the day-to-day operations of the laboratory system, and assists in the leadership of the Westfields Hospital and Clinic Laboratory.
Work Schedule: .6 FTE (48 hours a pay period) Days (PMs and Nights as needed), every 5th or 6th weekend rotation (12-hour shifts) and a holiday rotation.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, or other programs that satisfy the certification requirements of the National Accrediting Agency of Clinical Laboratory Science or Department of Health and Human Services certificate as Medical Technologist (HEW) and High School Diploma
or
- Bachelor’s degree with courses in biological and physical sciences or a baccalaureate-level clinical laboratory education program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency of Clinical Laboratory Science, the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools, an agency recognized by the United States Office of Education and Current certification as Medical Technologist (MT) or equivalent by a national board of registry ASCP. If new grad, eligible to sit for certification is acceptable.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 year experience in a clinic or hospital laboratory; demonstrated keyboarding skill and computer knowledge; previous training and/or usage of EPIC computer system a plus.
- Phlebotomy training and experience drawing patients ranging from infants to geriatric preferred.
