JOB SUMMARY:
The Human Resources Generalist assists the Human Resources Director with a variety of human resources activities such as recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, employee development, payroll, benefits, and compliance. The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for greeting, assisting, and providing direction and information to customers, visitors, and other guests of the organization.

- No supervisory responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Compiles and enters payroll data such as time variance, taxes, insurances, PTO, garnishments, and other records for payroll processing.
- Records, maintains, and/or approves accurate data for each employee, including such information as addresses, weekly earnings, absences, change of status, tool crib accounts, and dates of and reasons for termination.
- Assists with year-end tax obligations such as W-2 and ACA reporting.
- Corresponds with applicants, schedules interviews, arranges pre-employment screenings, verifies reference checks are completed, gathers needed documents prior to start date.
- Coordinates and conducts new hire orientation, including creating new employee packets, employee handbook overview, ensuring completion of employment documents (and updates as needed) and benefit enrollment.
- Assists with benefits administration for medical, dental, vision, FSA, HSA, and supplemental insurances including open enrollment and plan questions.
- Creates and maintains complete and confidential files on each employee; process, verify, and maintain documentation related to personnel activities such as staffing, recruitment, training, discipline, performance evaluations, and classifications.
- Assists in managing workers’ compensation injury claims including providing front line support to employees by arranging medical appointments, following up with medical providers on treatment status, and filing reports with insurance provider in order to ensure proper execution of claims and compliance with regulations.
- Responds to unemployment claim, salary survey, and verification of employment requests.
- Ensures labor law postings are current and compliant with state and federal standards.
- Completes applicant and employee logs for Affirmative Action Program and year end tracking reporting including new hires, terminations, and transfers.
- Coordinates and plans, in collaboration with Human Resources Director, wellness events, all-staff meetings, year-end events, employee incentive programs, and other company events.
- Distributes performance evaluations to managers and maintains records to ensure timely completion of employee reviews.
- Collaborating with the Human Resources Director in creating consistent, meaningful content on the employee portal, including writing and editing posts, promoting social media campaigns, and preparing engagement videos.
- Assisting HR Director by sorting weekly paychecks and assembling any documentation for distribution
- Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliances.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
- Greeting and directing visitors, answering phone inquiries, screening calls when necessary, and handling complaints in a courteous, professional manner
- Ensuring office supplies are maintained, including checking inventor and working with vendors to always ensure adequate levels of necessary supplies.
- Operating office equipment including printers, copiers, fax machines and multimedia instruments.
Requirements
REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Associate’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible professional HR experience.
- SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred.
- High level of professionalism, strong organizational, communication and written skills.
- Ability to deal effectively with a wide range of people in a helpful, positive, and constructive way.
- Proven ability to remain calm dealing with complex issues in a fast paced, multi-task environment.
- Ability to engage in reasoned dialogue on complex, difficult or emotional issues.
- Thorough knowledge of HR principles and federal/state/local regulations.
- Exhibit extraordinary discretion, confidentiality, flexibility, and willingness to work closely in a team environment.
- Must pass a post-employment offer drug screen, physical, and background check.
