About the role
As part of the newly created Network Strategy and Planning function, the Insights and Data Analyst plays a key role in supporting continuous improvement across V/Line’s regional network. This role is responsible for analysing data from multiple sources to provide insights that enhance operational performance and customer experience.
You’ll ensure the accuracy and integrity of key operational data, such as train punctuality, reliability, patronage, and customer feedback and translate this into meaningful insights for V/Line’s leadership and stakeholders. Your work will support data-driven decision-making and help shape targeted performance initiatives.
The role involves preparing reports and presentations for a range of audiences, collaborating with internal teams and external partners, and using both qualitative and quantitative analysis to uncover root causes and opportunities. Using data visualisation tools and SQL, you’ll help automate reporting, identify trends, and support performance initiatives.
Key accountabilities include:
Analysing and interpreting operational data to support continuous improvement and customer experience initiatives.
Ensuring the accuracy and consistency of key data sets, including punctuality, patronage, and customer feedback.
Developing and maintaining dashboards, reports, and presentations for stakeholders across all levels.
Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to identify issues and develop data-driven solutions.
Using automation and analytics tools to streamline reporting and uncover trends, anomalies, and insights.
About you
You’re someone who’s genuinely excited about the power of data and its potential to drive meaningful change. With a proactive mindset and a collaborative approach, you enjoy solving problems, learning new tools, and working closely with others to uncover insights that make a difference.
You bring a strong foundation in data analytics, with hands-on experience building multi-page dashboards in data visualisation tools such as Power BI or Tableau, and you're eager to keep growing your skills in a dynamic, purpose-driven environment.
Our ideal candidate will possess the following:
A proactive, adaptable, and innovative mindset with a genuine curiosity for uncovering insights through data.
Strong verbal communication with the ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical audiences
A collaborative approach with the ability to build relationships with stakeholders across the business
Strong scripting and programming skills, with proficiency in SQL and DAX required. Experience with Python or R is highly regarded.
A degree in a relevant field such as Business Information Systems, Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science or a related analytical discipline (desirable).
Demonstrated alignment with V/Line’s values of responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, respect, leadership and human rights.
If your skills or experience don’t exactly match our listed requirements, we still encourage you to apply. We value diverse perspectives and believe in the potential for growth and development.
