Description

Who We Are

Housing Connector unlocks housing for people most in need by connecting private property owners and managers with nonprofits and public sector partners. We operate at the intersection of innovation, housing systems change, and social impact — with the belief that homelessness is solvable when we match urgent needs with untapped resources.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a strategic, inspirational, and execution-obsessed Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join our executive team. It demands someone who is excellent at simplifying complexity, scales systems in an iterative and measurable fashion, and isn't afraid to disrupt the status quo to build better solutions.

This role reports to the CEO and owns geographic expansion and all regional operations including streamlining and expanding housing demand pipeline, community partnerships, product rollout and adoption, government relations, and housing stability. Success is defined as reducing the average cost of a person served, reducing time to market, increasing people housed, and reducing the # of people with negative housing outcomes. The role will oversee 9 current markets and grow national footprint to 15 markets by YE 2027.

The COO will architect and lead our operational infrastructure, oversee Market Directors across regions, and drive outcomes that reduce homelessness nationwide. They will translate vision into execution, pressure-test strategy through the lens of impact and efficiency, and be a thought partner to the CEO in building a national model for housing innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Strategy & Execution

  • Design, scale, and refine the day-to-day systems that make Housing Connector operate efficiently and adapt them so they can be effective in new markets/cities.
  • Ensure the strategy implementation is consistent and maintains a high bar across all markets, while giving each location flexibility to adapt to meet the local needs.
  • Lead organization-wide performance management and drive results against KPIs that reflect our values and impact.

Market Leadership & Talent Development

  • Directly manage and develop Market Directors, cultivating a bench of high-performing, entrepreneurial leaders.
  • Build a culture of accountability, ownership, and collaboration—where excellence is expected and supported.
  • Create mechanisms for rapid feedback, shared learning, and cross-market alignment.

Scaling & Innovation

  • Partner with the CEO to architect the next phase of Housing Connector’s growth—integrating technology, people, and process.
  • Operationalize innovation: pilot, measure, and institutionalize new approaches that enhance outcomes and efficiency.
  • Drive disciplined experimentation—balancing speed with rigor and ensuring learnings are embedded across teams.

Executive Leadership & Culture

  • Be a strategic partner to the CEO, translating big-picture goals into operational reality.
  • Serve as a key voice in organization-wide decision-making, bringing sharp analysis and a bias toward action.
  • Reinforce a culture rooted in impact, inclusion, humility, and speed.

Requirements

What You Bring

Required Experience & Attributes

  • 10+ years in senior operational or programmatic leadership roles, preferably in high-growth, multi-site organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead managers-of-managers and build high-performing, values-aligned teams.
  • Exceptional operational acumen, able to scale what works, fix what doesn’t, and ruthlessly prioritize.
  • Track record of building and integrating systems (data, talent, finance, tech) that drive both efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Bold but thoughtful communicator who is able to inspire action, navigate complexity, and push when needed.
  • Multi-site or market-based operational leadership with proven experience leading operations across multiple regions or distributed teams, with a demonstrated ability to drive consistency while allowing for local flexibility and innovation.
  • Hands-on systems builder with demonstrated ability to build operational infrastructure from the ground up or overhaul legacy systems during periods of rapid growth or organizational change; not just a steward of existing processes.
