Under the general supervision of the area Section Heads and Laboratory Supervisor and according to established policies and procedures performs a variety of laboratory tests and reports data for the use in diagnosis and treatment of patients. May perform procedures across the major areas of the laboratory or concentrate in one area such as Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology or Microbiology. No supervision is required for specimen processing or reporting of patient test results.Major Responsibilities:
- Performs a variety of laboratory tests and reports data for the use in diagnosis and treatment of patients.
- Performs testing accurately and completely following Policies & Procedures in the Hematology II Section. Performs coagulation testing, urinalysis, rapid strep, Sofia flu, Strep. Pneumoniae, Legionella Ag, wet prep., HCG qualitative and OCC blood testing and all other HEM II tasks.
- Ensures that test results correlate properly and takes appropriate follow-up action for all questionable results.
- Ensures the proper working order of all equipment and that there are adequate supplies and reagents for use. Restocks work bench.
- Processes specimens as outlined in Specimen Collection manual.
- Operates and maintains instrumentation. Fills out all maintenance, daily temperature and other appropriate logs.
- Performs appropriate start-up procedures at the beginning of each shift.
- Promptly and accurately performs assigned procedures and conducts routine quality control, calibrations and instrument checks. Takes appropriate follow-up action, as needed.
- Demonstrates autonomy, initiative, professionalism and an ability and willingness to problem-solve.
- May perform procedures across the major areas of the laboratory or concentrate in one area such as Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology or Microbiology.
- Performs testing accurately and completely following Policies & Procedures in the Chemistry I Section. Operates the AU680, AU480, and Access2 instruments and all other CHEM I duties.
- Performs testing accurately and completely following Policies & Procedures in the Chemistry II Section. Operates the Triage meter, creates manifests and site batches for send-out testing and all other CHEM II tasks.
- No supervision is required for specimen processing or reporting of patient test results.

License/Certification/Education:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or successful completion of an accredited four-year school of Medical Technology.
Preferred:
- ASCP certification as an MT is preferred.
Experience/Skills:
Required:
- Three years of related experience.
Preferred:
- LIS experience a plus.
