Boulder County Community Services is seeking to hire an Accounting Clerk III.  This role coordinates and provides accounting, finance, budget, fiscal and operational support within the Community Justice Services Division. Serves as an accounting clerk supervisor and is responsible for complex and specialized clerical accounting work requiring a high level of independence, expertise in public sector accounting procedures, and supervisory experience.

This is a full-time, benefited position that will work 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, hours will vary between 8:00am -5:00pm depending on workload needs.  This position will work mainly at the Boulder County Justice Center. Longmont Courthouse and Joe Pelle Center on an as needed basis; some remote work locations are negotiable. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is non-exempt.

Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.


Hiring Salary Range: $53,988.00 - $77,760.00 Annually


Tentative Hiring Timeline:

  • Phone Screening: September 10th

  • First Round Interviews: September 17th

  • Second Round Interviews: September 22nd

  • Reference Check: September 23rd


New employees receive an80-hour bank of vacation at the time of hire, in addition to 8 hours of both vacation and medical leave accruals each month (Must not have been employed at Boulder County during the 12 months prior to re-hire date to qualify). Boulder County offers bountiful benefits, including pension contributions.

Position Duties

1. Accounting and Finance Support

i. Perform accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) functions
ii. Prepare invoices, deposits, and financial supplemental and management reports
iii. Process and prepare vouchers for payments, file receipts, billings and other materials according to established methods
iv. Balance daily cash transactions and audit recaps to ensure accuracy
v. Reconcile accounts and bank statements
vi. Review and approve expense reports in Oracle

2. Budget and Fiscal Support
i. Track division-wide expenditures and resource allocation
ii. Assist in monitoring the division’s annual budget
iii. Assist with reviews of salary budget analyses and tracking vacancy savings
iv. Provide support to supervisors and managers

3. Operational Support
i. Order and manage supplies and resources (gift cards, bus passes, etc.)
ii. Maintain efficient record-keeping systems
iii. Ensure accurate and equitable purchasing processes

4. Staff supervision
i. Supervise and support the work of other accounting staff
ii. Develop goals, policies and procedures
iii. Provide training, coverage for staff and facilitate team meetings
iv. Approve staff timecards

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent and at least four (4) years of clerical accounting or booking experience, including two years of experience in a supervisory and administrative capacity, or at the lead/specialist level in a county clerical classification.

Additional related education may count towards required experience


BACKGROUND CHECK & FINGERPRINTING:

Other Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (min 5 years’ experience) in the public sector
  •  Expert knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, Oracle and ability to easily learn new technologies
  •  Understanding of budget management
  •  Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  •  Supervisory or team lead experience in an accounting environment.
  •  High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information.
