Longwood Gardens is seeking a full-time Lighting and Video Production Technician to join our Artistic Programming team. The Lighting and Video Production Technician is responsible for lighting and video needs of the department, and other areas including special effects, automation, and systems integration, from project and performance specific ideation, planning, and implementation, to equipment specification, acquisition, upgrade and maintenance. Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring safe and appropriate use of facilities and equipment across all spaces activated by the team, both permanent and temporary, including recommending and generating SOPs, safety and training protocols, and innovative solutions for improving future operations.
- Serving in a variety of roles connected to use of lighting, video, and other electronic applications, including systems designer, electrician, board operator, software programmer, and/or lighting or video technician for a variety of departmental programs, as assigned.
- For programs utilizing the lighting and video services of outside vendors, designers and operators, support project advance, rider review and quote soliciting, and assist with technical efforts of set-up, performance and strike.
- Demonstrating expert level skillset and the ability to lead a call in their area of expertise, through clear communication and direction, and problem solving
- Working in non-lighting/video technical areas when required, including as needed basic audio, staging, troubleshooting, and display monitoring.
- Ensuring work is completed to industry standards, safety procedures and organizational policies are followed by mentoring and guiding team members
- Supporting new program ideation, and existing program iteration and best practices improvements.
- Providing consultation and recommendations to internal teams for audio needs related to projects, including implementation, as assigned.
- Overseeing equipment inventory, storage, maintenance, upgrades and improvements, making recommendations for budget allocations to remain up to date for current operational requirements and future initiatives.
- Overseeing department’s equipment usage
- Remaining abreast of industry standards and guidelines regarding the latest lighting and video technologies and best practices.
- Identifying and mitigating risks and developing recommendations to enhance planning and execution to reduce risks, when needed.
- Upholding the standards of excellence for delivering an extraordinary experience both on and off stage.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Expert level experience in lighting and video production in multiple venues, formats, and performance genres
- Experience guiding a crew.
- Strong communication, decision-making, and teamwork skills
- Demonstrated strong stage and event management skills.
- Demonstrated adaptability experience and ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
- Strong guest service ethic is required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to operate ladders, rigging, forklifts and person lifts and always upholds OSHA and Longwood safety requirements.
- Ability to lift and push equipment weighing at least 40 pounds and ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat, cold and rain.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
