Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Landscaping Supervisor, performs custodial and maintenance duties for grounds, pools and street landscaping. Performs semi-skilled work that is generally routine and repetitive in nature and follows an established pattern.
Brief Overview of Major Duties:
- Cuts lawns, using mower; trims and edges around walkways, flower beds, and walls.
- Cleans grounds and removes litter from walkways, streets, and patios.
- May repair fences, gates, walls and walkways, using carpentry and masonry tools.
- Maintain clean drainage ditches and culverts.
- Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged leaves, branches, or twigs, using shears, pruner, or chain saw.
- Sprays lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides.
- Operates and performs maintenance on power lawn mowers, spreader, edger, weed cutter and street sweeper such as changing oil, adjusting and lubricating parts.
- Performs irrigation techniques using sprinklers, hoses and flooding methods. Troubleshoots and makes necessary repairs to the sprinkler system as needed.
- Digs up ground for flower beds, ditches, and holes for sign posts.
- May operate equipment such as street sweeper equipment.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Will be required to operate/drive a golf cart for the purpose of transporting supplies around campus as needed. This may also include transporting employees, residents and/or guests when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Has knowledge of the standard practices and methods of the landscaping trade.
- Skill in the use and care of equipment and tools used in the landscaping trade.
- Preferably has knowledge on using iPad. Training will be provided.
- Has ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures
- Is organized, able to multi-task, think creatively and adapt to different situations.
- Must be able to complete training on computer and/or other devices.
- Maintain competency in the position and knowledge of trade/industry advances and new technologies.
- Must be able to effectively communicate in English with all levels of staff, residents, and guests.
Education and Experience:
- Preferably has a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Preferably has one year of experience in the landscaping trade.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Has a current, valid driver’s license. Driving record must meet the criteria set forth by Royal Oaks’ insurance carrier.
Physical Requirements:
- Is able to carry/lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds.
- May need to operate a fire extinguisher.
- Is able to assist in evacuation procedures.
