POSITION: Community Mentor Trainee
JOB GOAL: This position is designed to introduce individuals, particularly adults, community
members, or aspiring educators, to the work of school-based mentorship, restorative practices,
and community engagement. Trainees will work under the guidance of experienced community
mentors and school support staff to build essential skills while supporting students and
contributing to a safe, inclusive school culture.
Qualifications:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent
2. Excellent relationship building skills with school aged students
3. Ability to work respectfully and collaboratively in a diverse environment
4. Strong interest in working with young people from diverse backgrounds and supporting
equity in education
5. Willingness to learn and receive feedback from supervisors and staff
Reports to: Youth Development Coordinator
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Assist in delivering Tier 1 and Tier 2 school-wide positive culture-building activities with
community mentors.
2. Support mentor matching and referrals for students in need of additional connection
3. Observe and assist with student attendance and re-engagement efforts.
4. Participate in restorative circles, mediation sessions, and professional development.
5. Shadow experienced mentors and learn to build supportive relationships with students.
6. Help plan and participate in after-school programs, clubs, and enrichment activities.
7. Collaborate with Vision of a Graduate (VOG) student mentors and peer leaders.

Compensation: Unaffiliated; $18/hour; up to 15 hours per week
