Long-Term Substitute Special Education Teacher

DESCRIPTIVE STATEMENT

OF POSITION:

The successful candidate will:

• Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students with moderate special needs, including, but not limited to academic, behavioral and developmental delays.
• Instruct students in academic subjects using a variety of techniques such as phonetics, multi-sensory learning and repetition to reinforce learning.
• Teach socially acceptable behavior as determined by the students’ IEP by employing techniques in an overall positive behavioral support system.
• Modify the general education curriculum for students with disabilities based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies.
• Meet with parents to discuss their child’s progress and determine priorities for their child.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Massachusetts Certification required for Special Education.
• Master’s Degree preferred.
• Experience working with students with moderate special needs and behavioral needs.
• Ability to provide evidence of impact on student improvement.
• Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with administrators, colleagues, school based staff, students, parents and community members.
• Ability to manage challenging behavior, and possess the skills, knowledge and expertise to teach and promote positive behavior.
• Demonstrates patience, understanding and empathy with pupils and parents.
