What You’ll Do:

  • Develop new, as well as strengthen current relationships with partnering business units (Customer Service, Logistics, Sales and Capacity) to increase collaboration efforts that will enable TTMS to maximize load exchanges and minimize load turndowns.
  • Responsible for increasing revenue and volume on non-EDI turndowns by designing, implementing and managing effective internal load acceptance processes, while driving decisions to increase load acceptance.
  • Responsible for freight acceptance and balancing undersold/oversold situations, by continually reviewing the load-to-truck balance and deciding to accept or decline loads based on capacity, service parameters, rates and truck utilization.
  • Proactively identify needs of each SBU and internally cross-market respective needs and capabilities; internally promote brokerage and asset capabilities; coordinate with Sales and Network Planning to achieve goals for those business partners (ex., 5 loads/wk. from Philadelphia to Chicago at $175 each)
  • Responsible for developing and management of KPIs (e.g., margin, rate per mile, $s/per load) and service reporting (e.g., load count and acceptance increases/decreases).
  • Convert transactional business to long term business by actively measuring service levels (scorecard).
  • Develop and implement strategies that will improve weekend freight opportunities.
  • Manage personnel by monitoring work performance and addressing any issues, assigning workflow and approving work schedule changes and time off.
  • Create a cross-training schedule for all employees in the TSC group and with partner departments to learn their related processes
  • Communicate the market conditions about supply and demand of capacity and lane rates
  • Develop sales strategies and prospect potential new carriers/customers to develop carrier base
  • Oversee the monitoring and tracking of freight to prevent service failures
  • Set and/or approve all rates and shipping lanes for transportation providers to ensure the best possible rate in the marketplace
  • Resolve issues about freight and deliveries between the transportation provider, customers and sales reps and manage performance metrics
  • Identify new and/or reoccurring issues/problems and implement solutions
  • Grow and maintain long term carrier relationships with 3rd party carriers to supplement TTMS Fleet.
  • Communicate new sales opportunities and innovative service ideas to appropriate departments
  • Approve and prioritize all current and future projects
  • Create and implement policies and procedures; ensure adherence to policy and procedure
  • Conduct daily/weekly/monthly team meetings; provide feedback to staff to ensure maximum productivity
  • Monitor staff performance addressing issues to positively impact results and profitability; set goals for staff and schedule staff to meet customer demand and maximize productivity
  • May travel to a customer or business site for business related meetings or entertainment purposes
  • Manage company assets; trailer utilization within the region and tractor utilization by controlling dwell time
  • Support sales department by coordinating new business start-ups and developing existing customers by providing a required level of customers by meeting or exceeding company requirements.
  • Update appropriate sales personnel concerning any changes in customer requirements or freight characteristics and market conditions.
  • Monitor a variety of daily reports including 7-Day Trailer report, Terminal Transfer report, Metrics report, Intranet Balances report, Intransit Delay (i.e. Dwell Report), Match Compliance and CSR Order Entry Audit.

What We’re Looking For:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in business or transportation field, or equivalent experience required. Equivalent years of experience are defined as one year of professional experience for each year of college requested.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years in customer service, freight planning or brokerage within the transportation industry required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience required.
  • 2+ years of managerial experience
  • Extensive industry knowledge including, operations and market awareness

Skills/Certifications

  • Proficient interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills required; ability to exchange information effectively and tactfully, strong diplomacy skills to guide, influence and convince others (colleagues / customers), interactive listening in order to negotiate with others, often at a senior level.
  • Advanced computer skills required; experience with Microsoft Office (specifically Excel), Internet and applicable company specific applications.
  • Good judgment and problem solving skills; able to create nontraditional solutions; entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Proven management skills including, team building, leadership and communication.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working in a deadline driven environment preferred
