In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.

  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.

  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).

  • Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.

  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.

  • Federal Work Study student may apply.

  • In good disciplinary standing.

  • Must be located in the U.S.

The Instrumental Studies Chair Assistant will provide general administrative and communications support for the Chair of Instrumental Studies, to help support communications and advertisement of performances, master classes and other special events hosted by the department. They will be charged with the development, creation and distribution of a weekly department newsletter, advertising within the department for the good of all students, faculty and staff, all upcoming performances, master classes, guest artists and other special opportunities, as well job, festival, competition and audition opportunities shared with the department by external organizations.

The Instrument Studies Department Chair Assistant must have strong written and oral communications skills and a working knowledge of digital design platforms (e.g. Google Suite, Canva, etc).  They must be proactive in their correspondence with faculty, students, and department staff, remaining highly organized and professional to fulfill duties as requested.

While specific duties will vary by semester, general responsibilities can include:

  • Development, creation and distribution of a department newsletter, highlighting department activities for the good of all students, faculty and staff associated with the Instrumental Studies Department

  • Communicate with all faculty and students involved in these performances to confirm accuracy and collect appropriate materials

  • Research, collect and distribute information on upcoming auditions, competitions and other job opportunities relevant to the Instrumental Studies department

  • Generate Ensemble Personnel documents required by marketing team for concert advertisements

  • Create posters and other promotional materials, upon request, for department concerts and special events

  • Other minor administrative support tasks, as requested by the department chair

Work Hours: 5-6 hours weekly
