The Role
The Industrial Engineer – Planning & Scheduling is a critical link between analytics and operations at FreshDirect. This role ensures that labor, production, and transport planning are not just efficient on paper, but also practical on the plant floor. By applying statistical models, forecasting trends, and optimizing workflows, you’ll help balance cost, productivity, and quality across our Bronx headquarters.
This role is ideal for engineers who thrive on turning complex data into actionable plans and who enjoy working together with operations leaders to make sure our facility runs at peak performance.
What You’ll Do
Planning & Forecasting
- Lead weekly discussions with department heads and HR on staffing levels and operational needs.
- Forecast seasonal order trends and translate them into actionable fulfillment plans.
- Analyze and plan staffing requirements, productivity rates, and overtime usage across operational departments.
- Regulate and adjust workflow schedules based on manufacturing sequences and lead times to ensure timely delivery.
Process Optimization & Data Analysis
- Apply statistical methods and mathematical modeling to improve manufacturing processes, labor utilization, and production standards.
- Conduct ROI calculations and labor utilization studies to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Use SQL (Oracle) and Power BI to create data-driven insights and increase visibility for the operations team.
- Design and improve sampling procedures, reporting methods, and quality/reliability data collection.
- Review production schedules, engineering specifications, and orders to enhance production methods and reduce waste.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with department heads, HR, and operations leaders to align staffing and scheduling plans with business goals.
- Partner with teams across plant and transport operations to identify bottlenecks and streamline processes.
- Provide clear communication tools and reporting to help managers make informed decisions.
Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- 2+ years of experience in operations, logistics, warehousing, or manufacturing.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with data analysis and SQL.
- Familiarity with WMS and SAP systems; experience in unionized environments a plus.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, with a track record of working effectively across teams.
