This position will be responsible for the worldwide total acquisition costs, supplier negotiations, contracts and managing vendor relationships as part of the Global Supply Chain team.  The Global Sr. Director of Sourcing will manage a team of Commodities Managers who oversees all activities related to the procurement of the commodities, from intent to purchase through delivery of commodity or service.  These activities include, but are not limited to, working in conjunction with the Global Operations, Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Transportation organizations to develop and implement business strategies.  This position collaborates with teammates across our global operations footprint to execute projects in the areas of: Motors, Electronics, Electrical, Contract Manufacturing, Cable & Wire Harness.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop 1 to 3 year commodity specific strategies to include; spend analysis, market and geographic considerations, strategic importance, establish goals and implementation action plans to support divisional and business level vision (e.g. technology, make/buy, supply base consolidation, strategic supplier selection, quality goals, market/industry analysis, etc.)
  • Maintain extensive commodity knowledge for the responsible supply segment including, but not limited to, competitive market conditions, risk assessment, technical acumen, global opportunities and future developments, obsolescence, and strategic opportunities.
  • Understand, track, and forecast the key cost drivers and market factors for assigned commodities and services including developing forecasts and budgets as necessary
  • Leverage supply of materials by consolidating the purchasing of materials to key supplier partners to reduce worldwide number of suppliers that will optimize cost and service.
  • Negotiate supply contracts that include terms, pricing, volume agreements, inventory strategies, competitive benchmarks, performance, regulatory compliance, and annual cost reductions to name a few, that also supports Hayward Lean initiatives and ensures supply continuity.
  • Report commodity and key supplier performance issues; spend and savings on a monthly basis
  • Mentor, advise and train buyers on key aspects of contract administration and strategies to achieve cost objectives with suppliers
  • Take lead on lowering total acquisition costs including nearshoring or reshoring to reduce tariff exposure, reduce transportation costs and lead times
  • Improve Supply Chain resiliency by reducing reliance on single supplier, country or region for sourcing materials and components
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering or Finance required with an MBA preferred.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing industry. 
  • A minimum of 15 years’ experience with proven knowledge of commodity management activities and appropriate supplier selection, development and management skills including management of sub-contracting resources.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Data driven, quantitative approach to analysis and problem solving for issues surrounding product or service cost, value chain, logistics and risk.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to accomplish objectives as both a team member and team leader.
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.  Ability to generate and work with Excel models while simultaneously implementing new business enterprise systems.
  • Previous experience developing, negotiating and managing contracts from inception to closure
  • Good understanding of the linkages between inventory control, planning and procurement relative to materials requirements planning and the commodity management role.
  • Ability to travel 15% - 20% of the time, nationally or internationally as required.

 

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee normally works in an office environment, but occasionally will be required to work in a manufacturing area at both Hayward and supplier facilities.
