Position: Systems Engineer IV

Nature of Role: Provide reproduction of SONAR recorded data and quality assurance of resulting duplications and other related products for NUWC Code 15 in Newport RI.  The qualified candidate will perform multi-faceted tasking with emphasis on system engineering, software and algorithm development necessary to provide Fleet support products, post test reconstruction and copies of DDCS media to industry partners.

 

Responsibilities:

Includes, but are not limited to:

  • Provide complete reproduction support for all recording baselines to support NUWC Code 15 SONAR and Sensors department
  • Conduct reproduction system operability and longevity test events
  • Develop/Update software and algorithms necessary to extract, format and playback DDCS data
  • Develop/Update local work procedures for conducting data reproduction
  • Perform investigations and provide feedback to the SONAR community on “best design” of formatted data to assist in reconstruction and data reductions
  • Review future APB DDCS requirements in an effort to build extraction tools that will be available during Step Testing and subsequent analysis
  • Prepare/Maintain reports and written laboratory procedures to reflect the current and up-to-date standards and practices

 

Requirements: 

  • Current SECRET Clearance.
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) on DDCS data formats and reproduction methods
  • Familiarity with newest builds of submarine Sonar systems to include basic operations, recording capability and the intent of design 
  • Effective communication, both verbal and written.
  • Possess ability to work in a team environment.
  • Complete tasks in a timely manner to support repair deadlines and/or ship’s schedules.
  • Exceptional organizational, critical thinking skills, and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, with emphasis on Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, with all levels of the contractor and government/military organization
  • Ability to operate various types of electronic test equipment (Digital multi meter, oscilloscope, signal injector…)
  • Ability to read and comprehend electronics schematics and diagrams
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.
  • This work may require travel (less than 10%) 

 

Experience:

  • 10 + years of experience with Sonar, recording and reproduction systems 
  • Knowledge of system sensors, display ready data, operation, troubleshooting, recording and reproduction
  • Knowledge of Sonar network configurations, unit interconnections and interfaces with other combat systems

 

Work Location: Newport RI, minimal-to-no telework available.

Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance or higher is required at time of hire.
