Job Summary

Under general direction and supervision of the Recreation Manager, the Preschool Aide is responsible for assisting the Preschool Teacher in creating a relaxed and caring environment for the children in Building Block Preschool. The Aide will assist in the preparation and implementation of lesson plans as coordinated by the Preschool Coordinator. The Aide position is responsible the essential functions as outlined below.
This is a part-time position with hours Tuesday through Friday from 8:45am-11:45am.
This position follows the U-46 School Calendar. This is an at-will position.

Qualifications/Education

Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must possess knowledge and have six (6) months to one (1) year of experience with child development.
Must enjoy working with children under the age of six (6).
Must have the ability to inspire confidence and enthusiasm in a learning environment.
Must be able to communicate effectively with the parent/guardians of the children.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Employee will arrive fifteen (15) minutes prior to scheduled class time to help prepare and stay fifteen (15) minutes after class to help clean-up and return all materials to their appropriate place.
Employee will assist the Preschool Teacher in preparing materials and implementing age appropriate activities.
Employee will follow directions and instructions given by the Preschool Teacher pertaining to the class routine.
Employee will supervise the children’s routines and be alert to the group as a whole.
Employee will develop and maintain a positive relationship with the parents/guardians.
Employee must attend staff meetings.
Employee will communicate and cooperate with Streamwood Park District staff.
Employee will wear appropriate uniform at all times.
Employee will be fair and consistent in maintaining discipline.
Employee will assist in the maintenance of a clean and functional classroom.
Employee will assist with taking children to the bathroom and see that they have washed their hands.
Employee will assist in providing a safe and secure environment for the children.
Employee will stay until all children have been picked up by parent/guardian.

Secondary Duties & Responsibilities

Employee must attend workshops and seminars when offered and pursue personal interests in child development skills and education.
Employee will adhere to Park District policies and procedures as described in the Part-Time and Seasonal Personnel Policies Manual.
Employee will adhere to the Building Block Preschool policies as described in Preschool Manual.
Employee will maintain appropriate customer service attitude.
Employee will create enthusiasm and interest and be positive and supportive of the Streamwood Park District.
Employee will exhibit quality and leadership.
Employee must perform all other duties as assigned and/or needed.

Cognitive Considerations

Employee must be able to follow directions and communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
Employee must be able to make decisions objectively based on customer service and fiscal constraint.
Employee is responsible for keeping organized records and reports.

Psychological Considerations

Employee must be able to work independently in day-to-day operations with general direction of the Preschool Coordinator.
Employee must have the ability to delegate work, where appropriate, in order to accomplish work most effectively.
Employee must demonstrate leadership qualities to perform required work.
Employee must be able to work in a team atmosphere, while promoting the Park District’s mission statement, vision and core values.
Employee must have the ability to maintain self-control and composure in difficult situations.
Employee must have the ability to recognize priorities and meet deadlines.
Employee must have the ability to receive constructive criticism and/or supervision.
Employee must have the ability to be flexible and adaptable to new situations.
Employee must possess enthusiasm and drive with a desire to accomplish goals and objectives.

Environmental & Physical Demands

Employee may be required to work both inside and outside during various environmental conditions, such as, but not limited to rain and mud, hot and cold temperatures, exposure to dust, fumes, dirt, and noise.
Employee may be exposed to various communicable diseases. (i.e. chicken pox, head lice, etc.).
Employee must operate and handle assigned equipment.
Employee must have the physical agility to maintain mobility from site to site, and be able to perform moderate manual tasks.
Employee may perform duties which include, but are not limited to prolonged lifting, standing, stooping, bending, twisting, and climbing for extended periods of time.

Classification
Non-Exempt, Not IMRF Eligible

Salary
Current Range is $15.00-$15.00
Newly hired employees can expect to start at $15.00 per hour.
