The Role

 

Working with the McArthur River team, you will be responsible for providing mine engineering knowledge and support. Core responsibilities will include planning and scheduling, ventilation, ground control, surveying and other activities to support production, development and construction in a challenging environment. This role will require contributions in various technical disciplines and will involve some cross training to help meet the needs of the department. With safety as your core value, you will focus on high quality results and provide direction and guidance to ensure that planning is in place to achieve targets. 

 

In this role, you will:

 

  • Prepare engineering documents: Drawings, change notices and production designs.
  • Conduct field work associated with surveying, mine ventilation and ground support.
  • Job shadow engineering or mining staff for on-the-job training.
  • Develop and coordinate short-term production plans and schedules, which includes the planning, detailed design, and monitoring of underground mine production and construction.
  • Be responsible for construction planning with designs, layouts, bills of materials and schedules.
  • Perform underground inspections and progress monitoring.
  • Liaise with other technical, maintenance, process and site services staff, and mine operations.
  • Conduct QA/QC reviews, i.e. production raise and stope reconciliations, blast fragmentation, backfill optimization, lessons learned, and prepare, track, check, and analyze weekly and monthly progress reporting all activities.
  • Design, layout, track, reconcile, and forecast:
        • Longhole stope designs and drill instructions
        • Raisebore drill and reaming instructions
        • Backfill recipes and instructions
        • Drill and extraction chamber development and construction

Required:  

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in mine (or related) engineering
  • Up to two years of relevant work experience required
  • Eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS)
  • Strong communication, planning and organizational skills
  • Flexibility, teamwork and good time management
  • Work a rotational schedule and commute to site by aircraft

 

Recommended:

 

  • Previous experience in an underground mining environment in a technical or operational role
  • Familiarity with mining products or mining software (Deswik preferred)
  • Working towards registration as a Professional Engineer
