SUMMARY

The Strategic CAPEX Project Accountant is responsible for managing the financial aspects of multiple strategic capital investment projects across their lifecycle. This role ensures accurate and timely reporting of project financials, budget monitoring, cost control, and compliance with internal and external requirements. This position will work closely with project managers to ensure financial control and accountability for each project. This position will apply principles of accounting when recording transactions, analyzing financial information, and preparing routine and ad hoc financial reports.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the financial management of assigned projects from inception to closeout
  • Review and analyze project budgets, forecast, and financial reports
  • Track project expenses to ensure alignment with budgets and forecasts
  • Ensure timely and accurate project billings for customer funded projects
  • Collaborate with project managers to assess financial risks and opportunities
  • Monitor and reconcile project-related accounts and resolve discrepancies
  • Month end close duties, including preparation and booking of journal entries and G/L reconciliations
  • Maintain compliance with contractual terms, internal policies, and applicable accounting standards
  • Review and validate timesheets and vendor invoices
  • Prepare audit documentation and support internal/external audits
  • Ad hoc projects on an as needed basis

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree (BA) or equivalent in Finance or Accounting from 4-year college or university and 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in Capital Project or Fixed Asset Accounting in a Manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Deep understanding of Capital Accounting, Fixed Asset Management, and project accounting standards
  • Ability to analyze complex data sets and generate accurate forecast, variance reports, and dashboards for capital projects
  • Knowledge of project lifecycles, budgeting, milestone tracking, and cross-functional coordination
  • High accuracy in financial reporting, cost tracking, and documentation for audits and compliance.
  • Understanding of the business context and financial implications of capital investments
  • Strong Excel skills; expert level preferred, intermediate level acceptable
  • Hands-on experience with an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) and mainframe systems (i.e., SAP, JD Edwards, Oracle)
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member

SALARY

Actual pay will be based on your skills and experience.
