SUMMARY:

Provides general well-woman care, prenatal, postpartum and neonatal care, lactation support and applicable treatment to clients, under direction of Physician, by performing the following duties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Performs physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines and instructions of Physician.

 

  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess client's clinical problems and health care needs.

 

  • Records physical findings, and formulates plan and prognosis, based on client's condition.

 

  • Discusses case with Physician and other health professionals to prepare comprehensive client care plan.

 

  • Submits health care plan and goals of individual clients for periodic review and evaluation by Physician.

 

  • Prescribes or recommends drugs or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures as prescribed by license and applicable laws and regulations.

 

  • Refers clients to Physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment.

 

  • Attends department and other meetings as directed.

 

  • Adheres to accreditation and compliance standards/guidelines.

 

  • Maintains a professional, organized, and clean working environment by following organizational policies, guidelines, and safety standards. 

 

  • Assists in development of departmental policy, procedures, and quality improvement activities within clinic as directed.

 

  • Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of client.

 

  • Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.

 

  • Initiates a client education plan according to the individualized needs of the client, as prescribed by provider and/or clinic policy including client and family instruction.

 

  • Records client response and treatment provided in the electronic health record and other appropriate records of care. 

 

  • Utilizes good communication skills to maintain positive relationship with clients, providers, co-workers, other departments in the agency, and with other facilities in the community. 

 

  • Performs all duties in accordance with the UIHS Mission, Vision, and Guiding Principles.

 

Additional Programmatic Duties:

  • Shall be responsible for the oversight, coordination and management of OB program implementation at all UIHS Clinic Sites ensuring consistent and uniform standards are met in accordance with Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program (CPSP) guidelines.

 

  • Provides direct client case management services in the CPSP program at Potawot Health Village. Services include orientation to UIHS perinatal care and prenatal needs assessment. 

 

  • Assist with policy and procedure development, quality improvement activities of the NA-AS program.  

 

  • Serves as a liaison with other UIHS departments, local hospitals, community professionals, and outside agencies.

 

  • Provides coordination of the Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program (CPSP) for the Humboldt County clinical sites and works closely with all staff completing CPSP interviews and plans for care.

 

  • Communicates regularly with Humboldt County Perinatal Services Coordinator in order to follow State of California CPSP guidelines and adequately maintains records and required data collection systems that insure ongoing UIHS CPSP Provider status. 

 

  • Provides support in any case which may involve “imminent harm,” “threatened harm,” abuse, or neglect and brings to the attention of Child Welfare Services and/or local law enforcement. 

 

  • Participates in the monthly Obstetrical Chart Review with Medical Providers, Nutrition, Public Health Nurse’s, and Community Health Representative’s. 

 

  • Coordinates with the AIHII and outreach staff as needed.   

 

  • Travels to outlying UIHS sites as needed.

            

  • Manages and coordinates the Family Pact program, including ensuring certification requirements are met, and coordination of group dates, meeting spaces, and staff training.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Educational degrees must be from a US Department of Education accredited school.

  • Must have completion of academic midwifery requirements consistent with California Midwifery Practice Act. (B&P Code 2512.5 and 2513)
  • Must have current license from the California Medical Board to practice as a Midwife in the State of California. 

 

COMPUTER OPERATIONS
 

  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc. 
  • Must be able work in an Electronic Health Records (EHR) system.
