About the Department

The Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) is seeking an individual to work in public service as a Fraud Investigator in the Office of General Counsel. This position is an opportunity to build a lifelong career doing work that truly matters - helping to protect consumers and maintain public confidence in Michigan’s insurance and financial services industries.

As a Fraud Investigator, you will be responsible for taking consumer and industry complaints, analyzing large amounts of documents and data to determine if a criminal or regulatory violation exists, preparing written reports, interviewing victims, witnesses and criminal suspects, coordinating complex investigations, and testifying in hearings.

Fraud Investigators regularly assist investigative teams, industry professionals, criminal justice professionals, and other professionals associated with state regulation. Investigations must be conducted in accordance with rules of evidence and be prepared in a manner that withstands review by local, state, and federal prosecutors.

Work Location:
This is a remote position, with periodic in-person meetings in Lansing, Michigan. To work remotely, you must have a safe and appropriate designated workspace, as well as secure and sufficient internet access through commercial cable or wireless broadband with minimum speeds of 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload. Work must be performed in the state of Michigan. Remote Work Agreements are reviewed and approved annually.

Work must be performed in the state of Michigan. If you currently reside outside of Michigan, you must relocate to Michigan to perform the duties of this position. Relocation expenses are not reimbursed.

Position Duties

Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.
Experience

Regulation Agent 9
No specific type or amount is required.

Regulation Agent 10
One year of professional experience providing regulation and investigative services equivalent to a Regulation Agent 9.

Regulation Agent P11
Two years of professional experience providing regulation and investigative servicesequivalent to a Regulation Agent, including one year equivalent to a Regulation Agent 10.

Minimum Qualifications


Regulation Agent 9
Two years of experience in a criminal justice agency, corporate security setting, or the United States Armed Services providing investigative services as an investigator or sworn detective may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.

Regulation Agent 10
Three years of experience in a criminal justice agency, corporate security setting, or the United States Armed Services providing investigative services as an investigator or sworn detective may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.
Regulation Agent P11
Four years of experience in a criminal justice agency, corporate security setting, or the United States Armed Services providing investigative services as an investigator or sworn detective may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.
