The Buyer will place purchase orders for new and existing production materials. May be assigned to purchase non-production items. They will focus on supplier management to obtain on time delivery from a large group of suppliers managed by various buyers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Professionally place purchase orders to meet program and productions schedules, while maintaining good supplier relationships when assigned.
  • Control the cost of purchase materials within budget and generate cost reduction action plans.
  • Attain a level of product/commodity knowledge and develop a level of awareness of supplier operations as they pertain to the Company.
  • Professionally resolve problems (both internally and externally), in a fair and ethical manner.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills to interact effectively with all levels of the organization as well as outside contacts.
  • Travel will be required to various supplier locations.
  • Maintain and support company objectives for cost out, inventory turns, and supplier on-time delivery.
  • Provide vendor performance data for Quarterly Scorecard.

Skills and Attributes

  • Ability to read blueprints and technical information. (Will train)
  • Understand quality assurance philosophies and practices.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Skills in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
  • Analytical: Collects and researched data; Uses intuition and experience to complement data.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Business Acumen: Understands business implications of decisions; Displays orientation to profitability.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Written Communication: Writes clearly and informatively.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree (B.A) from a four-year college or university; or 1-to-2-year related experience and/or training' or equivalent of both.
