Student Worker – Herbarium Assistant

Purpose/Objective of the Role: 

Tasks & Responsibilities:

• Research collections of plants are shared among botanists around the world as a way to explore and document biological diversity. 
• Key to this interchange is the organization, care, and documentation of dried samples of plants. 
• The herbarium intern will assist curators in upgrading the research collections, mounting and repairing specimens, and packing and sending specimens to other museums.

Qualifications/Skills: 

• Previous experience is not required, but the work requires attention to detail and care in handling fragile and sometimes irreplaceable research specimens.
• Useful skills and experience for this position: 
• Work with archival materials, library experience, activities involving careful record-keeping, biology course work. 
• Courses Completed: Completion of biology courses helpful, but not required.
