The IT Assistant Section Head – Data Center is an entry-level management position which operates under the supervision of the Section Head. This position assists in managing the section staff for day-to-day operations including coaching and providing other performance feedback, as appropriate. Additionally, this position will assist in ensuring infrastructure service level commitments are met or exceeded, driving consistent best practices and support procedures to ensure services are delivered and systems maintained efficiently, consistently and professionally for the department. The IT Assistant Section Head – Data Center must be committed to embracing new and challenging opportunities.

- Assist in defining the scope, goals, and deliverables of IT data center operations to support business goals, maintain cyber security standards, fulfill end-user requirements, and identify and resolve system issues in collaboration with management and team members.
- Assist in working with stakeholders to define business and systems requirements for technology solutions.
- Conduct regular evaluations of disaster recovery capabilities and assist in maintaining Disaster Recovery and Continuity of Operations Plans.
- Assist in defining the short- and long-term strategies for the data center to ensure effective delivery of systems that meets current and future requirements.
- Assist the Section Head in cultivating and disseminating knowledge of data center operations and best practices.
- Assist in managing staff including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, evaluation, and disciplinary actions.
- Assist in the review of budget proposals and recommend subsequent budget changes where necessary.
- Assist in working collaboratively with staff and senior IT leaders to develop annual Division goals. Maintains roadmap for assigned areas.
- Assist in working individually and collaboratively with Project Managers and IT Leadership to identify resources, risk, and communication that is necessary to ensure project goals are achieved.
- Assist in ensuring staff adhere to project timelines and associated tasks are defined and achieved; prioritize and communicate potential barriers and recommend alternate strategies.
- Assist in ensuring sound operational procedures are implemented and in line with industry best practices and standards to establish high availability and reliable access to systems and data.
- Assist in ensuring that proper system documentation is created/maintained and that staff are cross-trained allowing continuity in system knowledge and operational consistency.
- Assist with collaboration across teams to align enterprise architecture, cyber security, documentation of support processes, policies and standardization of tools.
Minimum Requirements
Education and experience: The educational equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in technology information systems, or related field, or the educational equivalent of a diploma from an accredited high school plus a minimum of four years in data center or infrastructure support, system architecture or administration capacity. Experience technical leadership and/or management. Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Experience monitoring, maintaining, analyzing and resolving complex systems problems.
Knowledge, skills and abilities: Must be customer-centric and enjoy working with others. Must be able to multi-task and have good time management and organization skills. Ability to utilize office productivity software such as Microsoft Office. Strong written and oral communication skills with demonstrated technical documentation ability. Well-developed sense of urgency and follow-through. Ability to work after-hours and on-call for routine and emergency maintenance. Must be able to maintain a positive attitude. Must have high integrity and be of strong moral character. Ability to lead and train others. Ability to serve effectively as a technical leader on projects or processes.
Physical requirements: Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be able to operate motor vehicles for Department business.
Working conditions: This position involves periods of sitting in front a computer and working alongside Department personnel. This position must be flexible to work overtime and weekends, as needed.
Licenses, registrations and certifications: Valid driver’s license.
