Job Description

TITLE:   Student Monitor (lunch/recess)

REPORTS TO:   Intermediate School Principals

JOB GOAL:

• To enable students, through meaningful playground/indoor leadership, to enjoy the group interactions and physical exercise that are an integral part of the district’s educational program

• To help establish and maintain a calm and pleasant atmosphere in the cafeteria so that students may find mealtime a time to relax 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Possess a High School Diploma
2. Likes to work with children
3. Available for approximately two hours every school day

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Responsible for organizing students into orderly lines for purchasing food and directing them to assigned tables.
2. Responsible for helping students develop and observe proper dining habits, both in terms of etiquette and nutrition.
3. Responsible for assisting younger students with the use of utensils when needed.
4. Responsible for organizing students for orderly disposal of food waste, trays and utensils.
5. Responsible for organizing groups for orderly dismissal from the lunchroom.
6. Responsible for circulating among the tables during the meal period so as to be available to help children who need assistance and resolve minor problems as they arise.
7. Responsible for informing the attending teacher at once of any serious problems.
8. Responsible for supervising students at playtime and maintains a harmonious atmosphere on the playground or during indoor recess.
9. Responsible for assuming responsibilities for play equipment.
10. Responsible for directing movement of groups to and from the playground/recess area.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Hours are 10:55am - 1:30pm Monday through Friday.  Delay day hours are 11:10am - 1:40pm. Rate is $13.15 per hour as per the negotiated contract for the probationary period of 45 working days; followed by the regular rate of $16.44 per hour after successful completion of the probationary period.

The Intermediate School Principal will provide an evaluation based on this job description.
