Overview:

Responsible for providing technical guidance on sanitation programs under the Quality / Food Safety Organization. With minimal direction, assumes primary responsibility for leading the development and maintenance of significant policies and programs related to the management of food sanitation and cleaning. Responsible for the implementation and compliance of company-wide sanitation programs, policies and practices related to wet and dry sanitation and continuous improvement programs based on audit results. As necessary, will need to interact with regulatory officials on behalf of the company. Study relevant literature and write reports and reviews. Work with Engineering, and Manufacturing groups to identify, standardize, and implement best practices, new technologies and methods related to these areas of expertise and any emerging issues. Maintain relationships with and engagement of Operations, Quality and Supply Chain staff to ensure successful program adoption. Provide technical expertise and work with Corporate Engineering to resolve issues related to processing equipment sanitation and plant/line construction/changes.

Job Description:

  • Assist with the design, implementation, enhancement and validation of sanitation practices, procedures along with sanitation methods and programs across all facilities.
  • Ensure ongoing uniformity of sanitation by developing scientific programs and methods of testing to ensure compliance.
  • Serve as a sanitation expert providing guidance and technical support to Operations Quality, R&D, Company manufacturing facilities and co-mans in the areas of sanitation, pest control, pathogen/environmental control programs, new equipment installation or construction changes and other food safety or quality initiatives 

Develop and deliver global training programs such as Global Food Sanitation Standards, microbiological, allergen, specialty programs (Organic and All Natural), Global Food Sanitation Preventive Controls, Chemistry of Cleaning; wet and dry cleaning methods, Sanitary Design of Equipment and Facilities.

  • Research new and emerging technologies for food sanitation and the food-manufacturing environment. Work with Engineering and equipment manufacturers on sanitary design.
  • Design and conduct Sanitation Audits/Assessments at Company manufacturing facilities and co-mans to identify areas for sanitation program and practices improvements based on audit results.
  • Assist in the development and ongoing improvement of training programs, workshops and other resource material.

Job Complexities: 

  • Evaluation of current sanitation programs and procedures, verifying both accuracy and efficacy of the programs and procedures while recommending improvements or corrections for optimum sanitation for all facilities
  • Work cross-functionally to assist with sanitation issues by coordinating the efforts of all responsible parties for the timely resolution of the problem.
  • Work closely with the Lab to conduct and ensure good results with our micro programs and to enhance our micro programs with the latest technologies.
  • Keep abreast of new technologies and practices in sanitation and pest control by maintaining close relationships with outside vendors, regulatory contacts and technical publications and reports
  • Conduct trials or evaluations as necessary to identify cost and operational benefits associated with new technology or practice
  • Cross functional partnership with Plant Operations, Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, vendors, third-party auditors and other technical organizations/associations

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in meat science, food science or related discipline is required.  7-10 years of experience in a food processing environment with demonstrated experience/achievements in sanitation may be substituted for formal education.
  • In-depth knowledge of sanitation and plant manufacturing systems
  • Thorough knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, SQF AMI Design, Sanitation Standards, pathogen & allergen control, spoilage organisms and plant sanitation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: 

Sanitarian Certificate is preferred.
