Kankakee High School is seeking a passionate and collaborative Hispanic Heritage Celebration Director to lead the planning, coordination, and implementation of the district’s annual Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations and related cultural programming. This role will ensure that events honor and celebrate the diverse cultures, histories, and contributions of Hispanic/Latino communities while fostering student, staff, and community engagement.

Event Leadership & Program Planning
Design, organize, and implement a series of engaging events, activities, and educational programs during Hispanic Heritage Month (and beyond when appropriate).
Collaborate with staff, students, and community partners to create authentic, inclusive, and meaningful celebrations.
Ensure programming reflects cultural richness, diversity, and relevance to our school community.
Collaboration & Communication
Serve as the primary liaison between school leadership, student groups, staff, and community organizations.
Facilitate regular planning meetings with staff and volunteers.
Promote celebrations through effective communication channels, including newsletters, social media, and school-wide announcements.
Cultural Awareness & Engagement
Partner with teachers to provide instructional and cultural resources connected to Hispanic Heritage.
Incorporate opportunities for student leadership, performances, and creative contributions.
Support school-wide equity and inclusion goals by elevating Hispanic voices and perspectives.
Administrative Support
Manage event logistics, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
Coordinate vendors, performers, and guest speakers as needed.
Oversee the creation and distribution of promotional materials.
Provide a final report/summary of activities, participation, and recommendations for future events
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in education, cultural programming, event planning, or related field.
Demonstrated ability to organize events, collaborate with diverse stakeholders, and manage projects effectively.
Strong cultural competency and knowledge of Hispanic/Latino history, culture, and contributions.
Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle
Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree
Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body
Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment, including computers, copiers, machines, etc.
Working Conditions and Environment:
Part-time position, with occasional evening and weekend work as needed.
Travel between district schools is required.
Occasional attendance at board meetings or other district-wide events may be necessary.
