Purpose of Position:

Under the direct supervision of a licensed behavioral health Clinician, provides access to and delivers behavioral health services, within a defined scope of practice to Day Shelter guests, including, but not limited to, prevention, early intervention, case management, aftercare and follow-up for individuals and families within the Day Shelter impacted by a variety of behavioral health addiction/substance abuse and mental health issues. 

 

This position is designed to afford entry level employment through training and formal education in the areas of community development, prevention and wellness education and individual and group counseling for substance abuse and mental health concerns: the primary work of this position is the successful completion of the training, education and prevention activities that promote healthy lifestyles.  The trainee will begin to demonstrate and be assisted in the essential functions of the position.

Essential Functions:

Under close supervision and by the direction of the clinical supervisor the Clinical Associate Trainee shall receive training with the following functions: 

  • In collaboration with Day Shelter staff and the Day Shelter Clinician, provide a safe, healthy, and educational environment to encourage and support wellness within our Day Shelter guests.
  • Providing follow-up support, aftercare, support groups, directed case management, advocacy, and networking services for mental health or substance abuse to inpatient and outpatient Day Shelter clients
  • Briefly interview new clients and arrange clinical services, make referrals, and assist in treatment compliance 
  • Lead and/or support appropriate prevention and wellness education activities at the Day Shelter in collaboration with the Day Shelter Clinician and Day Shelter staff
  • Engage, complete, and practice the skills and knowledge offered through the Behavioral Health Aide (BHA) and/or Chemical Dependency Counselor (CDC) programs
  • Submit CARF and Medicaid compliant documentation in a timely manner.  
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of behavioral health issues and community strengths in the Bering Straits region.
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Tribal law, regulations, rules, policies, and processes. Including substantial knowledge of relevant specialized fields such as 42 CFR and HIPPA requirements. 
  • Capacity to communicate with respect and empathy
  • Capacity for accessing and utilizing educational opportunities
  • Knowledge of general client care activities
  • Knowledge of documentation requirements for record compliance
  • Ability to use technology

Minimum Requirements

 

CA Trainee (Grade 4)

            High School Diploma

            BLS within 3 months of hire

            1 Year full time employment

CA I (Grade 5)

            All the requirements of a Trainee

            6 months as a Clinical Associate Trainee

            BHA I certification

CA II (Grade 6)

            All the requirements of a CA I

            6 months as a CA II

            BHA II certification

CA III (Grade 7)

            All the requirements of a CA II

            6 Months as a CA II

            BHA III certification

CA Practitioner (Grade 8)

            All the requirements of a CA III

            1 year as a CA III

            BHP certification

 

Physical Requirements:

∙Use hands and arms to operate office or clinical equipment

∙Sit more than half the workday

∙Stand and/or walk less than half the workday

∙Bend, stretch, twist, crouch and/or reach

∙Use hands and arms for repetitive motion tasks

∙Lift or carry unaided less than 25 pounds

∙See and hear with normal acuity

 

Working Conditions:

∙Work is conducted in a standard office environment

∙Minimal travel is required (less than 25% of the time)

  • Via large aircraft
  • Via small (less than 16 passenger) aircraft, and/or
  • Via snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles, or boat
