Job Summary:
Banquet bartenders provide professional, responsible beverage service for members and their guests, preparing drinks with proper measurements, established by the Club, in an appetizing display with appropriate garnishes. Banquet bartenders anticipate members and their guests’ needs and responds with a sense of urgency. He/she promotes a sense of camaraderie with fellow employees. The bartender understands the House Rules as determined by the Board of Directors and reports infractions to management professionally and accurately.
Banquet bartenders report directly to the beverage manager as well as all other banquet management.
Essential Functions
- Banquet Bars are to be organized and clean, reflecting a pleasing atmosphere.
- Bars are set to specifications thirty minutes before the start time of the function and maintained throughout the entire event.
- Members and guests are welcomed with a greeting when they approach the bar.
- The bartender sets bar according to BEO specifications, maintains and breaks down bars when authorized to do so by a manager.
- Beverages are served in the appropriate glassware, along with established measurements, with appropriate garnishes.
- All bartenders are trained in alcohol management and are TIPs or TAM certified.
- Full knowledge of beer, wine and spirits
- Full knowledge of beverage trends
- Creative mixology and signature craft cocktails
Supportive Functions
In addition to performance of their essential functions, this position is required to perform certain supportive functions. The amount of time spent performing each of these functions is to be solely determined by the manager/supervisor on duty and is based on the particular requirements of each specific outlet.
- Maintain an open line of communication between members and their guests, management, and line employees
- Assist in the training of newly hired employees
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
An individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities to be able to explain and demonstrate that he/she can perform the essential functions of the job.
- Knowledge of appropriate glassware.
- Full knowledge of beverage trends
- Knowledge of banquet operations, to include proper staffing levels, member relations and etiquette.
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language sufficient to understand menus, record orders, communicate with members and guests to explain all offerings and record special requests.
- Ability to effectively deal with member and guest complaints and concerns in a courteous and professional manner. This involves carefully listening to the nature of the concern, demonstrating empathy and providing a positive, proactive solution.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Education: Any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities.
Experience: Prior bartending experience is preferred.
Licenses and Certificates: Ability to obtain any Club required certification or licenses. Example: TIPs on premise certifications or a State of Michigan food handler’s card.
Other: Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to support the business needs of the Club.
