About the Department

Cateret Community College is accepting applications for a Part-Time, 12 Month Basic Law Enforcement Training Program Qualified Assistant. Applications will be accepted through August 27, 2025. Position Duties

  • Assists with coordinating the BLET program's schedule, ensuring it aligns with the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission's guidelines.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records for each student, including their training progress and certification status.
  • Provides oversight, management, and support of instructors, faculty, and curricula for all law enforcement programs in collaboration with the Director of Public Safety.
  • Provides administrative and logistical support to the BLET Director, students, and instructors, and assists with understanding program rules and regulations.
  • Ensures that the BLET program complies with all relevant regulations and standards set by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commissionaccording to the NC Office of Administrative Hearings (.gov).
  • In the absence of the BLET Director, the BLET QA supervises instructors and student coordinators.
  • Identifies appropriate instructors and supervises instruction of related material, coordinating with key stakeholders and filling in to instruct as needed. 
  • Assists in student recruitment and retention, including College-wide marketing initiatives.
  • Maintains related equipment in a high state of readiness
  • Serve on College committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Attend required campus events including graduation, professional development, & employee meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications


EDUCATION:
  • Graduate from high school or received a high school equivalency credential as recognized by the issuing state Preferred: Graduate from college or university
  • Completed North Carolina Justice Education and Training Standards Commission- accredited instructor training program or an equivalent instructor training course. 
KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS:
  • Four (4) years of practical experience as a Criminal Justice Officer, an administrator or specialist in a field related to the criminal justice system or as an employee of a Criminal Justice Agency.  in active law enforcement is required
  • Possess certification as outlined in “Licensing Requirement” section Preferred: background in law enforcement training and officer development 
  • Awareness of regional, national, and global trends in law enforcement
  • Knowledge of current student learning outcomes, assessment, and curriculum techniques and methods
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to work as a team member
  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures
LICENSING REQUIREMENT:
  • NC Criminal Justice Training and Standards General Instructor Certification
  • NC Criminal Justice Training and Standards Qualified Assistant Certification

Other Qualifications

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is carried out in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings. Evening and weekend work are required, including some travel.
