As the first and most experienced Hospice Care provider in Texas, VNA has a trusted reputation for delivering high-quality care for over 90 years. Our hospice and palliative care programs are available across 16 counties in North Texas, including: Collin, Cooke, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Fannin, Grayson, Henderson, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Rockwall, Tarrant, Van Zandt, and parts of Wise and Navarro Counties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend fairs, speak at community events, visit businesses to actively recruit and engage volunteers.
  • Develop a plan in conjunction with Managing Director to recruit and retain new volunteers, with a focus on regular on-going volunteers, corporate, and community groups.
  • Trains and coordinates volunteers in effective utilization of online volunteer platform and meal delivery app.
  • Work in partnership with the Meals on Wheels team to ensure that meals are delivered without interruption and within a four-hour window ensuring adherence to the Texas Administrative Code.
  • Serves as liaison between volunteers and MOW intake staff to identify and address client issues for appropriate and timely resolution.
  • Participates in special volunteer activities including Days of Caring, Pet Care, Teen Board, March for Meals, holiday meal delivery and volunteer appreciation activities.
  • Coordinates engagement of youth service groups (ex – Jesuit, NCL, YMSL) through assignment of delivery routes and other opportunities to serve.
  • Manage multiple tasks effectively, set priorities, maintain an organized, productive schedule, and meet established deadlines.
  • Delivers meals to clients as needed by the program.
  • Conducts tours of VNA Beatrice M. Haggerty Kitchen.
  • Assists in identifying volunteer support for all VNA volunteer programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 2-3 years direct work with volunteers at a coordinator level. Supervisor level a plus.
  • Knowledge of volunteerism and volunteer community resources. Previous volunteer experience, preferably in healthcare or non-profit environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to be used internally and externally.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Certification in Volunteer Administration (CVA) accreditation or willingness to obtain accreditation preferred.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License required.
  • Proof of valid Texas Automobile Liability Insurance required as listed individual.
  • Demonstrates the characteristics of courtesy, honesty, and integrity necessary to meet customer service expectations.
  • High level of computer literacy in MS Office programs.  Experience in volunteer management software systems a plus.

Technical & Physical Requirements:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Able to lift and carry up to 24 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Capable of sitting for approximately 4 hours, standing for 2 hours, and walking for 2 hours during an 8-hour workday.

  • Occasional bending, squatting, reaching above shoulder level, crouching, kneeling, balancing, pushing/pulling equipment, and climbing (up to 2 feet) required.

  • Must have the ability for simple grasping with both hands; no repetitive foot movement required.

Working Conditions:

  • Office-based with occasional travel within a 50+ mile radius.
  • Ability to deliver meals to client's homes as needed by the program.

  • Occasional exposure to varying outdoor temperatures and humidity levels.
  • Occasional exposure to moving vehicles, temperature and humidity changes, dust, fumes, and gases.

Continuing Education Requirement:

  • Completion of annual VNA training (e.g., via Relias or approved alternatives).
  • Attends monthly Dallas Association of Directors of Volunteers meetings, as schedule allows.

  • Pursues ongoing education through webinars and external training sessions.
