About the Department
Responsible for the administration and functional support of the Departmental standardized application software packages. Work involves functionally supporting Department application software systems. Provide assistance with computer software and hardware problems. Maintain inventory of software licenses and hardware within the department.
Position Duties
The Application Support Specialist may be called upon to do any of the following: (These examples may not include all of the tasks and/or knowledge which may be expected of the employee, nor do they cover all of the specific duties which may be required.)
Provides technical support on software and hardware for Department end users; assists with report writing from software packages used within the Department.
Develops end user training manuals; trains individuals on departmental software packages.
Tests new departmental upgrades on software; provides hardware and software inventory to the Information Services Department; ensures Department software licenses are up-to-date.
Analyzes departments automation needs; develops cost/benefit analysis and makes recommendation to Department and Information Services on course of action.
Maintains information on the City’s Web Page within established guidelines from Information Services
Minimum Qualifications

Education/Experience: Graduation from high school followed by 2 -3 years of computer experience working with software applications or Associates degree from an accredited technical college or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
General Skill Levels:
Knowledge of current computer and/or electronic systems, techniques and requirements being utilized for specific applications.
Considerable knowledge of microcomputers and peripherals.
Considerable knowledge of computer operational principles, methods and procedures, including all peripheral equipment.
Knowledge to update system and users consistent with current trends and organizational needs.
Knowledge of imaging technology and of data bases, including Access and the ability to generate reports.
Ability to work harmoniously with Department Heads, officials, users and employees.
Ability to effectively communicate technical data orally and written.
Ability to provide technical guidance and assistance to users engaged on a project and to evaluate user requests and to define system requirements.
Ability to prepare clear, detailed programs of instruction for efficient machine utilization.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office environment. The physical demands on this position may include lifting, stooping, reaching, and manipulation of heavy objects. Activities may take place in dusty, moist or humid conditions.
