Equinox VGM is currently inviting applications for a Field Technician Lead to join our growing team as the company transitions from mine construction to mine operations.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Project Geologist, the Field Technician Lead is responsible for ensuring the work of the Field Technicians is completed in a safe, efficient and effective manner. The incumbent will perform duties such as inventory tracking, supply ordering, sample despatching, training, and vehicle and equipment maintenance, as well as the general duties of a field technician as time allows.

 

This position is located at the Project site, working on a 14 days in/14 days out rotation.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate leadership in Health, Safety and Environment through personal behaviours and conversations.
  • Establish and promote a respectful and healthy work environment.
  • Promote a proactive approach of continuous improvement by reporting all Health, Safety and Environment incidents and communicate solutions.
  • Track and update inventory.
  • Order and manage supplies and consumables required for field operations.
  • Coordinate and oversee the despatching of exploration samples.
  • Deliver and coordinate training for field technicians on technical procedures, safety protocols, and equipment use.
  • Manage core storage facilities, ensuring proper organization, labeling, and accessibility.
  • Oversee fuel logistics for remote projects, including tracking usage and coordinating resupply.
  • Coordinate maintenance schedules and readiness of field vehicles and ATVs.
  • Monitor the progress of field technician assignments and ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide regular updates to senior exploration staff.
  • Cut and move diamond drill core.
  • Cut drill pads, trails and access roads with a chainsaw or brush saw.
  • Survey drill collar locations, trench outlines, and other features using high-accuracy GPS.
  • Piece together and mark up oriented diamond drill core.
  • Wash and clean recently excavated trenches.
  • Take photos of drill core and samples.
  • Cut and collect channel samples in trenches.
  • Collect till and soil samples.
  • Prospect and collect grab rock samples.
  • Geotechnical measurements of diamond drill core including Rock Mass Rating, specific gravity and magnetic susceptibility.
  • Load and unload tools or materials.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; or a significant amount of related experience in a similar role is required.
  • Experience in a previous lead role is considered an asset.
  • Experience with chainsaws and other power tools is considered an asset.
  • Experience with GPS and navigation skills is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a remote industrial environment is preferred.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements at remote sites.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office and data-management software.
  • Knowledge and experience specific to field operations and logistics.
  • Knowledge of the repair and assembly of equipment.
  • Ability to read diagrams and/or instructions.
  • Flexibility regarding work activities and type of work requirements.
  • The ability to work in a multi-discipline, multi-tasking, team environment.
  • Attention to detail and keen on ensuring job is completed efficiently and correctly.
  • Ability to work in adverse terrain and weather conditions. 
  • Ability to do the following in accordance with the task for an extended period: climbing, crouching/squatting, kneeling/crawling, trunk bending, stooping, and reaching up and out for material.
  • Perform repetitive hand work and work with arms above shoulder height.
  • The ability to manage heavy physical work, which is defined as maximal lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 lbs.
  • A valid driver license and a driver’s abstract.
