Job Description Summary:
Nutrition Educators provide evidence-based nutrition, health, and breastfeeding education to WIC-eligible clients. They assess nutritional and medical risks, issue WIC benefits, and support the daily operations of the office. This role also involves community outreach and collaboration with partners to connect families with resources that promote health and well-being.The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Licensed or Registered Dietary Technician preferred.
An Associate's degree as Dietary Technician or Bachelor's Degree in a related field that includes nutrition courses preferred.
Valid state of Maine Driver's license and acceptable driving record required.
Job Description:
Key Responsibilities
Client Assessment & WIC Benefits
Explain the WIC program and determine client eligibility.
Collect, review, and interpret anthropometric, hematological, medical, and dietary data.
Identify nutrition and health risks, assign priority status, and provide appropriate WIC food prescriptions.
Issue WIC benefits and ensure all client records are accurate, complete, and confidential.
Education & Counseling
Use motivational interviewing and evidence-based approaches to guide clients toward healthier choices.
Provide nutrition, health, and breastfeeding education tailored to each client’s needs, risk status, and lifestyle.
Set and document individualized goals, addressing barriers to change in a supportive way.
Identify high-risk clients and coordinate follow-up with WIC Registered Dietitians.
Develop and deliver group education sessions, newsletters, displays, and approved educational materials.
Community Outreach & Collaboration
Organize and lead outreach clinics to serve WIC-eligible populations in surrounding areas.
Work with community partners and vendors to promote WIC services, address concerns, and maintain client participation.
Ensure outreach locations provide the same level of service, comfort, and safety as main sites.
Professional Development
Attend required WIC trainings and maintain continuing education in nutrition and breastfeeding.
Stay current with State WIC policies and complete all assigned trainings on time.
Additional Duties
Participate actively in staff meetings, workshops, and special projects.
Contribute to maintaining a positive, welcoming clinic environment.
Support MaineGeneral’s mission by fostering community health and engagement.
Qualifications
Licensed or Registered Dietetic Technician preferred.
