Freshman Academy Coordinator
Grant Funded Position (1 year); Teacher Contract
Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the Principal, the Freshman Academy Coordinator works to ensure students transition successfully to high school and remain on track to graduation at the end of 9th grade. The Freshman Academy Coordinator works to engage grade-level faculty and staff in the design and implementation of interventions that will increase On-Track rates. These strategies include, but are not limited to: creating a welcoming and supportive environment, creating a system for tracking the effectiveness of interventions, celebrating successes toward On-Track and student connection goals, and communicating with the school counseling department around academic progress.
Essential Performance Responsibilities Coordinate all Freshmen Activities • 8th – 9th Grade Transition Meetings and Events, • Freshman Orientation • Parent, Student, Teacher Freshman Activities, • Parent Teacher Conferences, • Freshmen Orientated Information Sessions,
Establish and Coordinate Freshman Academy Team Meetings; lead professional learning activities and meetings to support student acheivement
Establish Goals for the Freshmen Academy and provide positive reinforcement ( Academic, behavioral, parent contacts, etc) and monitor progress
Work Collaboratively with Counselors, Social Worker, Case Managers, and Administration to support the success of all freshmen students
Collaborate regularly with special education teachers/case managers to monitor IEP goals, accommodations, and modifications. Ensure interventions and supports in the Freshman Academy are accessible and inclusive for students with disabilities.
Attend all PPT's for Grade 9 students and provide updates on student progress
Support the implementation of transition plans for students moving from middle school special education services to high school programming
Develop small group and individualized orientation and transition opportunities for students requiring additional support.
Collect, Analyze, and Report Data Specific to the Freshman Academy that is shared and presented to the district and board of edcuation
Serve as the OnBoard/LINK Crew Faculty Advisor and student trainer to support positive student transitions
Develop and oversee system of interventions for all freshman students
Encourage freshman to engage in school activities and events
Assist building administration in identifying areas of need for 9th grade success.
Coordinate and faciliate regular Grade 7/8 events to engage students and families and promote the offerings available at Derby High School

Equipment Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Travel Requirements Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Qualifications Profile CT State Teacher Certification
Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Education Bachelors from an accredited college or university/Masters Degree preferred
Successful prior teaching experience in high need setting
Sucessful experience supporting/coaching/mentoring teachers/adult learners
Special education or related services background desirable
